Cartoon characters and remakes...doesnt anyone in hollywood have a real life from which to draw their creative inspiration?
If they turn a book into a movie, does that make it unoriginal as well? (but I agree with you Carncano. Don't forget video games as movies)
Everybody acts like Hollywood should do something "original" but, I hate to break it to ya', "originality" doesn't pay. In fact, it pretty much bankrupts movie studios. People like cartoon/video game remakes. They sell. They're fun. And, if they are made well, they are worth the investment. But when an entire studio arm can be bankrupted by a single picture that was just a little too original for consumers, well, what you get is a jettisoning of originality in favor of that which will be a sure[er] thing. ~String
Serious ? Titan AE bankrupted an entire studio ? Wow. I didn't think it was too bad.. But then again, when you're ten, nothings too bad.
It cost over a hundred million to make and probably half as much to market. IT made a paltry $22 million at the box office. Because of this failure, Fox Animation Studios was shut down entirely and the division was dissolved. Many, MANY executives lost their heads over it. ~String
Something other than these, that's for certain. There are so many great books available to make movies from. With the authors permission and insight guiding the film in its making, that would be a better way to go IMHO.
Comics, remakes or brand Tolkien. aargh... What happened to the promised movie version of Neal Stephenson's 'Diamond Age', for starters?
