These are the "arguments" I found in this thread (and I left out the really inane ones):

General "arguments", all from the OP:

1a. "Because unlike the fragment of time of Earth life...moment in space is worth many times that of moments spent on Earth. "

1b. "Space is so infinite and boundless and holds so many opportunities for us to prove ourselves as individuals and society and as a civilization."

1c. "Because once we devote ourselves to space we devote ourselves to the universe and prove our existence."

1d. "Why burn in the moment of time in light of Earth?"

    "Arguments" directed at me:

2a (Post 41 & 45). "Someday we will.. ..face a choice on how to treat those species.. you will not be there to change this to be more humane and moral."

2b (Post 48). "If you went into the space industry we would listen to you better!"

2c (Post 51). "without you in space industry how would I relate to you? I need you in space so that I can understand you better and how to handle species with peace."

2d (Post 59). "space has chosen you and you have chosen space!"

Which ones should I take seriously ?

And for Siddhartha's Gautama's sake...please do not refer to "OP" when referring to me...OP is draqon and I am draqon so drop the formalities.

The only one I can take a little seriously as an argument is 1b, but it doesn't persuade me too devote my life to space.
Why do we need to prove ourselves and to who ?

to the children of the future who will not need to struggle to survive expansion into space...but have our past technology and deeds to thank.

In that case there are other things that concern us first.

    In year 2240:

"Mommy on the news today they said that all the oil has run out and we have no nuclear fuel left either...and solar energy is not enough...food is scarce...and we are stuck here on Earth" ... mommy, "Yes son...but here pat this starving kitty you got for free from the ENMOS KITTY FOUNDATION which the government has funded in past century instead of the space industry, remember son you grandma died of starvation last week...we do not have enough food left...and I...I" long silence...mom drops on the floor dehydrated...the child weeps before his mother...his tears evaporate in the sun before they touch the scorching ground.

In the same year 2240 but parallel universe:

"Mommy on the news today they said that all the oil has run out and we have no nuclear fuel left either...and solar energy is not enough...food is scarce...what do we do?" mommy, "Thankfully in last century a corportation DRAQON SPACE EXPLORATION has been widely funded by the government and we have stable supply of nuclear fuel and other fuel for all our needs here on Earth and on space colonies...thanks to DRAQON FOUNDATION...and here we care for the kitties too because now with help from space we can support them and we can support ourselves too"

I was thinking more of learning how to coexist with nature and to gently slim down our population to an acceptable size, so that future generations can enjoy nature and life in general while not having to worry about hunger etc.
Then, when we worked out all that, we can work towards expansion into the galaxy.

    Year 2200...

A desolate landscape...the mutants are sniffing the dusty ground that once were the proud city of Amsterdam...A half mutated boy with three eyes and two extra cat arms finds a dusty metal sheet with engraved words...barely able to read it, he struggles and makes out the following, "And thus spoke the Lord of Netherlands to gently slim down our population and solve the dwelling issues of overpopulation and gently slimmed down was the population with gentle bursts of nuclear discharges over the face of the Gods' lands of our planet..." nearby a half mutated cat strolled by...the boy continued reading, " ...the lands of our planet became gently slim...".

Gently slimmed down population of half mutated half raindeer-half-giraffes have gentlly strolled along the gently slimmed down boy...the statue which read "Enmos" crumbled below...

your choice of words Enmos..."gentle slim down of population" carries a meaning to kill off the extra population we have...

Birth control. You can financially reward people that don't take any kids for instance.

They are not rewarding people, they are punishing.

One kid per couple, no kids and you get a financial reward.

Enmos...that does not work...ok...have you even considered people not wishing to not have one kid only or no kids? Have you considered the need for so many pills? who will make them? :bugeye: its ridiculous.
