I am a strong advocate of Mars terraforming and terraforming of planets that we colonize as we go across the space from Earth...however not all support this, some have other views as to never wonder of to space, wait for hundred more years to venture of to space, some favor exploration of Mars...but do not favor terraforming...

So are you a supporter of what...in terms of space exploration and Mars?

Terraforming should only be done to completely dead planets. Obviously, decades and decades of research has to be done to be sure.

we dont have decades...we need to act fast to allow our civilization to be sustained by resources.

You can have remote colonies without terraforming the planet. It will just cost trillions of dollars to supply them.

By the way, terraforming itself takes AT LEAST a few decades.

actually terraforming takes thousand years or so...

    artificial that is...

dont worry about money...monarchy can be set up to accomplish a goal.

You mean natural, they speculate it could be done in as little as a couple of decades. But most likely a couple of hundred years.

Anyway, you agreeing that terraforming takes this long contradicts post 3.

no it does not...notice what I voted for...to live in bio-domes and do terraforming on the side...and also get resources to sustain ourselves.

    That's not terraforming..
    Terraforming involves the entire planet.

Like I said...we can both live in the domes and at the same time terraform the planet slowly.

Then terraforming is not a priority.

Edit: Did you just bike to another 'internet location' ?

of course it is not. But it is a priority that we do terraform Mars and planets and moons we visit in the long run.

What needs to happen in the long run is not commonly referred to as a priority.

but it is a priority that it does need to happen. I don't want people to forget about it...and settle on the domes.

futhermore...in order to make it a priority that it is done...a special division/unit must be set up which will spread life everywhere and terraform planets and moons separate from any nation.

First priority will be to survive. Terraforming comes later, not a priority.

    pri·or·i·ty
    1. Precedence, especially established by order of importance or urgency.
    4. Something afforded or deserving prior attention.

But what if the only way we can survive in, lets say 100 years from now, is to have mars terraformed?
Then wouldnt that make it first priority?

And if anything, we should at least have it as a major fallback plan just incase Earth becomes over-populated, or unlivable for some other reason... That way we would at least have better chances of our species to live on.

So someone thinks Mars can be "terraformed"? I will presume they mean "made to look like the Earth does"?

And this will take a century, say, if we "start soon", or some sort of thing?

I always took the meaning of "terraformed" to mean make a place livable for our species, not to make it look like earth. I doubt we would ever make Mars look like the earth. If this is not what it means then i am using the wrong word.

I didnt mean to say it would take a century, i was just using some random time as a frame of reference of when we might need to have it livable for us.
I think in an earlier post someone said that scientists believe they could terraform a planet in maybe a couple of decades.
