But the problem is we send bright well educated people into space without any reguards to their well being when it comes to knowingly not having them protected against the cosmic rays that are out there. In time we can develop the technology to prevent this from happening so all my suggestion is to do is ....WAIT! I'm not against exploration, I want it done too but only in a SAFE manner and not jepordizing the best and brightest humans to be sent on this exploration.

I realize Wiki is filled with unscientific censors who are liars and love propaganda but here you go:

wiki is lying...the duration record was not set by Polyakov but was set by Sergei Konstantinovich Krikalev spent a total of 803 days and 9 hours and 39 minutes in space.

Why am I not surprised? Wikipedia is censored and edited by retarded high school teachers like synthesizer-patel. Thank you for correcting the morons at Wiki.

You do of course realize that an effort like that will employ thousands of people in high technology jobs and add billions to the economy.

Okay give me a rudemantary example on how you can make money from going to the moon.

Meanwhile should I give a couple why human precense should not go to the moon. Their lack of independens the destruction of the radio noise free zones that are probably the moons highest economical intrests for the next 50 years? (you can really make monster telescopes for a relative little sum of money)

No, I realize that those salaries will have to be paid for by somebody. I assume taxpayers. Money will not be added to the economy, it will be redistributed. I think there are better uses for that money. The vast majority of the taxpayers will not see a return on the rather large bill they will foot.

Not true. Apollo astronauts did an incredible amount of science in a few manweeks of total exploration time on the Moon. Robots, in comparison, are incredibly slow and are literally mindless.
False dilemma. Space faring nations use completely different standards for human-rated systems than for unmanned systems.

What are you talking about? The ISS has been continuously occupied for nearly eight years now.

That's twelve years in the future or so. That is a lot of time to work on radiation mitigation technologies.

Cosmic, you seem to be of the mind that we shouldn't send people into space until we have all of the problems completely solved. That is a recipe for not going anywhere.

No large technology development effort could possibly be solved by waiting for all of the problems to be solved before embarking on the development effort. Large, complex problems are partitioned into smaller, more manageable problems that are worked in parallel. Moreover, without the deadline, why work on solving the radiation problem, period? Planning to put people back on the Moon by 2020 will drive the development of the solutions to problem such as radiation protection. Without the plan and the deadline, why work on solving the radiation problem ever?

That is pure baloney. NASA (and presumably, Roskosmos) worries a lot about and takes immense precautions to mitigate the risks of human spaceflight. NASA has multiple divisions whose sole objectives are to study and mitigate such risks.
I call BULL. Nearly every post you make regarding human spaceflight is anti-human spaceflight.

Who are probably smarter than both of you, dummies. There are 2 records actually, one for continuous stay and an obviously longer one for cumulative stay (803 days). I will let you guys look them up...

Now getting back on topic, just how many experience can you do on the Moon what you can not do on the ISS? If you need gravitation, you have Earth....

Space, Moon, Mars, etc. explorations are more like excercises in futility. Without "warp" drive, humanity is Earthbound. Space diversions are mainly for chauvinistic and entertainment purposes. I could live without. If space exploration is indeed a goal, common sense would suggest development of propulsion systems first.

I just saw an interesting number today. $6 million is the cost of a single seat in the F-22. That's 1/3 of NASA's yearly budget for a damn chair.

Maybe that helps put into perspective how little money is 'wasted' on the space program.

so you are saying...NASA only gets 18 mil?

Because NASA's budget is 17.6 billion dollars
