It obviously doesn't work on the final five. It was a pretty stupid design. Clearly, the person being tested should have been in a cage or something. Remember when he got the positive result with Boomer? He was afraid she'd kill him if he said anything.
I also liked the scene where he was itching to link with the Cylon mainframe. I really think he'll be loyal to humanity to the end. He, Athena, and probably Tigh. I'm not so sure about the chief anymore, and the president's assistant is just waiting for the right time to strike. She's on some Nietzschean "Beyond Good and Evil" kick and is loyal to no one.

In the end there'll be a kumbaya moment where all cylons and humans "come together". You watch. The "getting there" part might be eventful, but in the end, humanity and cylons will merge.

A note on this episode: it's about fracking time we got to see some action. I love what's going on with the cylons right now and I love that Number 3 will be reawakened.

I don't know about the kumbaya moment. I mean, on the one hand, the merging of Cylons and humans can take place through Hera Agathon and Nicholas Tyrol, at least.

If the final Cylon is William Adama, then Lee would stand as a third point of integration. If Kara Thrace is the last Cylon, who knows what that equals? The President? Baltar?

At any rate, there are a few points of union, and while I would be disappointed if the final Cylon was eternally ignorant of his or her state, I think a love-fest ending would be even worse.

I'd like to think the writers have more pride than that, but ... yeah, we'll watch. And we'll hope for the best.

Maybe something touchy-feely like a kumbaya moment won't happen, so perhaps that's a bit of an exaggeration. What I do think will happen, after some really good hyperbole, is that the Cylons will recognize that their destiny was always with human beings and not without or against human beings. I think that humanity will find itself thrust together with the Cylons, in the end, and that they will be forced to make peace with eachother on a [probably depopulated] Earth.

I think that they'll discover that Earth is our Earth, the original home of humanity and not the fabled 13th colony. I think that they will find it long abandoned, and will discover that it happened eons ago. I think that the quote, "This has all happened before and will happen again" will mean that humans once invented thinking machines who drove them to depopulate and destroy the Earth milenia ago. Eons later, humans and Cylons will return to a recovered Earth to begin anew.

I also think that the original five Cylons will have been the lone descendants of that original creation, eons ago, and that they've been with humans for the milenia, waiting for the event to happen again. The cycle, begun anew, the original human-android creations, guided humanity along a path to the creation of the new Cylon race who were, themselves, the pawns of the original creations. Their goal will to be take humanity through this crucible in order to bring them some new religion/understanding/something-really-really-important.

    That's my thoughts.

Like the one on the base star between the six and the red shirt? Best scene of the season so far

Damn. Now that's a frackin' theory.

Now that, sir, is an insanely great theory. I'll raise a glass now and try to figure out the continuity problem (it's there, but I can't see it clearly) later.

    Cheers.

I agree (that its an awesome hypothesis), yet there really isnt any plot disagreement that can not be solved with memory hacks or some other bullshit response.

My favorite prediction comes from a friend...

Without leadership, and confused. I wonder what's going to happen next. Pace still has something to be desired though.

The president is the final cylon?

No. I'm sure D'anna was just fracking with her head.

I'm beginning, more and more, to think that it's either Romo Lampkin or Doc Cottle. Two things in this episode make me think that. 1) we saw a bit of interesting compassion from Cottle to Six when she was dying and 2) Lampkin has wielded a great deal of power from behind the scenes for over a year now.

It'll be interesting to see who it is. Just watch it be a no namer or something really lame like the Battlestar Galactica itself. Or even more oddly, Admiral Caine. Another interesting thing would be if it was one of the "rogue" Cylon units, like Boomer or Athena. They don't really mesh with their models and in breaking with them they've shown a bit of individualism that Cylons aren't known for.

    PS-- this episode was ultra-lame.

I'm inclined to agree. But I thought that statement in the preview warrented some comment.
I felt the exact same way while watching the last episode. I'm leaning towards Lampkin. Notice the overt role he played in ensuring that Lee Adama understood the importance of the role he was stepping into. It was somewhat reminicent of the "pain box" from Dune. He had to insure that Lee was worthy of role he was about to play.

Ironically, the Bene Gesserit considered this to be a test of whether or not you were human. And here we have (potentially) a Cylon as the one administering it.

PS As further evidence for the Lampkin theory, consider the words of Satan (Milton) from the Devil's Advocate:
LOMAX: Why the law? Cut the shit, Dad. Why lawyers? Why the law?

MILTON: Because the law, my boy, puts us into everything. It's the ultimate backstage pass, it's the new priesthood, baby.

What better position from which to manipulate events?

I'm leaning slightly more towards Cottle, though your Lampkin theory is very sound. The one reason why I think that Cottle edges out Lampkin is that Cottle has been there since day one in his vital position of authority. All five of them were in key positions from day one: The XO, the aid to the president, the chief mechanic, the sports hero living on Caprica who conveniently became Starbuck's husband, and lastly the CMO of the Battleship. Lampkin's position of authority has been quite important recently, but my thought is that we would have been seeing a lot more of him since season one and not just right now if he were one of the final five.

    It wasn't even my cat!

I'm thinking that was a deliberate edit. However, String's suggestion—

    —is very likely, too.

It is my understanding that we will not learn the identity of the final Cylon in the first bloc of the season. It was reported when the season started that even the cast did not know who the last Cylon was, that the episode had not been filmed. Unfortunately, the link to the article I cited has broken; I'll try to dig it up later today.

It's an interesting proposition about Cottle. I thought his moment with the dying Six was impressive, and given that they've thrown subtlety out the airlock ....

I don't have a leading candidate. Unfortunately, all I have is a list of who isn't the final Cylon. Or, to be more specific, if any of these people are the final Cylon, I will be rather disappointed with the writers.

One of the difficulties I'm having is understanding how it is the final Cylons came to be in such vital positions and proximity. Sam's IFF did not transmit until after he activated; the Cylons tried very hard to kill him before he came awake. It seems a difficult proposition that the Final Five overcame all variables to be so vitally placed and so close together.

So I doubt it will be Adama. Having two Cylons in charge of the fleet, while it makes for a nearly paradoxical irony, just doesn't work. Roslin? How many people in the fleet have had Cylon blood transfusions? Perhaps it only worked on her because she's a Cylon? Still doesn't work, though. It seems absurd that the master plan would account for the location of the Secretary of Education, even more so the fact that she even had the job in the first place. Baltar? A strong possibility, but it would just suck, after all he's been through, to justify him like that. Starbuck? Maybe, but she is, on the one hand, an iconic character, and to the other it's just ridiculous that she would meet and marry Sam. The probability is ludicrous, even more than Roslin. Apollo? Impossible by the story line, as I see it. Lampkin? I agree he's too late an introduction.

I'll throw Zarek into the pool of possible candidates, if only because I can laugh at the idea of Richard Hatch being a Cylon.

It would be even funnier if Boxy showed up all of a sudden as a Cylon.

There's something I'm overlooking, though, and it's not my nose. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to feel like an idiot when we finally find out: How could I have missed it?

And, you know, the episode did have one of the best lines ever: "It wasn't even my cat!"

I think you may be giving the writers too much credit, and setting yourself up for a let down.

Also, fact that Tigh seems to have impregnated a Six suggests that Helo's name is back on the table. The final five may be able to breed with regular models.

Lampkin only makes sense if his profile rises in the next several episodes. Right now, he's too much of an side character. BUT the "open seat" in the last supper picture than Moore said was for the final cylon is right next to Lee (and, as Moore suggested, it also suggests that it's no one who's already in that picture, counting out Roslin, Admiral Adama, Lee, Baltar, Starbuck, or Helo).

You also don't know where post-missing-leg Gaeta's story will take him, now that he (presumably) bears ill will towards Starbuck.

Romo is a good candidate though, as he has indicated that he knows something about the psychology of cylons and the flaws of humanity, and it's not clear if he was talking out his ass in an odd way, or if he has some basis for his insights like:

Those statements would, in retrospect, be more interesting if he proved to be a cylon and had some pivotal role in the end of the season. He also said:

He has already had a pivotal influence on Lee Adama, and that may grow as Lee becomes President and conflicts arise with the Admiral.

Probably. But they were doing so damn well. As a matter of principle, their track record demands my faith.

Meantime, an interesting bit on Romo Lampkin:

OMG. Lee's back . What with the gay 70's haircut.

    Oh, and Romo too.
Nice ep. But hey, nothing like the previous seasons. (they're better).
And Adama left in a raptor. Wow. The great adama swayed by love.

Yeah, and what's he thinking? I mean, all he has to do is log onto Battlestarwiki.com to see that she'll be back in, like, two episodes. Duh.
