Women in Copenhagen can now swim and walk around in public pools without their bikini tops

The decision is the result of a year-long campaign by a pressure group, the Topless Front, which says women should be treated the same as bare-chested men.

Campaign leader Astrid Vang, 20, who took her shirt off with others to protest at a leisure centre at Christmas, said: "We women would like to decide by ourselves when our breasts should be sexual and when not.

"In swimming pools they should not and that is why the breasts should not be covered - We will bathe topless just like men."

The Danish campaign was inspired by a Swedish group called Just Breasts, which was formed after two women were asked to cover up their breasts by a lifeguard at a public pool near Stockholm.

Swedish protesters carried out several full-frontal marches in their country but are still campaigning for bare-chested equality.

One of their leaders, 22-year-old Ragnhild Karlsson, said: "We want our breasts to be as normal and desexualised as men's, so that we too can pull off our shirts at football matches."

i think its a great idea!

why should women have to cover up to swim? obviously if there are young children in the pool then, perhaps we should cover up,but if its an all adult night (like they do on a thursday at our local leisure centre) then why not swim topless? and besides some men ahve bigger boobs than some women and they dont have to cover up!

Why? If you cover up in front of the children, you give them the same type of indoctrination that boobs are sexual.

 

Good for them. This is not something that would work in most of the US unfortunately. Too many prudes. I have to laugh at how many right wingers who condemn the way Muslim women are forced to cover up who would be shocked by a proposal such as this.

Women's breasts will never be as desexualized as men's though. Heterosexual men will always want to look at pretty breasts, just as we enjoy looking at the rest of pretty women's bodies.

 

There should be a ratings schedule.
Men with disgusting floppy tits should be made to wear neck to knee cozzies. Women too should have to make the grade in the unsightliness stakes.
I can deal with the majority of female breasts but some of those cottage cheese arses...COVER "EM UP!!!

 

yeah true i guess, i would like to know how many women here walk around topless at home? even if your kids are home?

 

there are swimming pools that allow you to go naked in UK, they are mainly for people with breathing illnesses like asthma
