Interesting idea. But I'm pretty sure the Galactica was built with no computers advanced enough to become sentient. I think the music was in their heads and was simply drawing them together.
    Me either.
You might also add that she reappeared at the same time as the Cylon fleet.
Hmmmm. I guess that's good, I'm getting a bit tired of all the major characters turning out to be Cylons. It's getting to the point that this is almost a Cylon civil war!

Does anyone else think that Baltar's character is kinda overrated/serves no purpose other than an interesting sideline ?, The main fight is pretty much in the hands of others like Adama and Starbuck.

But hey, if you think he's truly humbled, go ahead.

I really enjoy the Baltar character. In the original BSG, Baltar was pure evil. A comic book character. This Baltar is clearly not good, but neither is he definitively evil.

He's out for himself, that's for sure. But at the same time, he feels horribly guilty and conflicted about the role he played in the destruction of the colonies. (Remember the scene where hw thought he had woken up in a cylon regeneratoin chamber? He was clearly quite relieved. He said, "There was no betrayal...."

On New Caprica, he was clearly a horrible president. Yet when pressed by the Cylons, he refused to authorize the execution order until they literally put a gun to his head.

Then again, when he was with the Cylons, he gladly cooperated with them.

He's an interesting character, and he's certainly had a huge impact on the story.

    So did Bulldog.

Question: If Anders is a cylon, and the toasters can recognize him, why did they fire on him while he was in the resistance?

Maybe the retina changes once there is realization/code of The all along a watchtower song ?

    Ah, that makes sense.

Bulldog was groomed to escape. They might either have taught him how to fly, or the raider they gave him might have been ordered to obay him (just as the raiders firing on him knew to miss).

Same point either way in that case: cylon help came into play. Besides, maybe Bulldog is the fifth cylon.

Another good question, did Anders unknowingly order the raiders to break off their attack? Or did the cylons recognize him as one of the final 5 and abandon their attack so he and any other final 5's in the fleet wouldn't be killed? I'd imagine there are no copies of the final 5, once they're dead they're dead for good, and that's a risk the cylons wouldn't accept.

But the final five are taboo in cyclon society. so, why would they be concerned about killing them ?

They're taboo, but that doesn't mean they're not interested in them.

I still say the final five are the "creaters" of the free Cylons. The final five were made by some human, and they set off the rebellion by reprogramming the other Cylons. The rest of the Cylons are programmed to obey them and to not harm them once they've been recognized, just as they were originally programed to obey/not harm humans.

The imminent destruction of the human fleet caused the final five to become aware and call off the Cylon attack.

This brings to mind the question of why the human battle with the Cylons was always via actual fighting. Why not attack with computer viruses? EMP's? That sort of thing.

No comments on BSG? Pretty interesting episode, I thought. I'd say my theory is looking pretty good. It appears that the "final five" just took over the toasters without giving them free will. The strange thing (to me), is why build the capacity for full AI/sentience and then install an inhibitor to prevent it? Wouldn't it be cheaper/easier just to not build that capacity into the toasters?

And I'm kind of surprised it took so long to send Starbuck out on her mission to find earth. What did they have to lose by sending her out with some other witnesses to confirm her story? Set up a rendevous point and there's no danger to the fleet. If she finds earth, send a few more ships to check the place out before bringing in the whole fleet. Perhaps even rig up some kind of electronic warfare to create the image of the fleet continuing in some random direction to throw the cylons off the trail.

I'm still not sure who the final cylon is. Baltar's looking like a likely suspect, but so is Starbuck. Really, I'm kind of hoping it's some more minor character. Maybe the doctor?

Whoever it is, I think the last Cylon is the original "skinjob" built by some human scientist. He/she has known he/she was a Cylon all along and has been manipulating events while pretending to be human since before the first Cylon war.

I would have to agree. I was entertained.

No. Creativity is essential to fighting successfully in battle. No matter how well you program something, creative tactics are still important. Thus, the raiders were programmed to innovate and have intelligence... but such intelligence could allow them to turn on the Cylons. Thus the inhibitors.

Here's an interesting twist: Six just gave the Centurions "intelligence". Interesting that it was their fore-model that was given intelligence so that it could make smarter battle tactics 80 years earlier which spawned the whole Cylon race. How ironic would it be if the Centurions turned on the Cylons because of the Cylon history of oppressing them!

I'm starting to favor Doc Cottle as the final Cylon. He's been there, passive, helpful, yet influential since the beginning.

(watch it turn out to be some nobody who we've never seen)

This is all getting a bit ridiculous though. I mean... out with it already!

I'm not a programmer, but couldn't you give them an "expert program"? They would only have knowledge and judgement regarding their job (battle)?
Nice twist. I like it. The skinjobs have had a tiger by the tail, they've just let go of the tail.
Exactly my thinking. I really think that whoever it is, they won't be surprised to find out they're a Cylon. They'll have known all along and have been manipulating events towards.....I'm not sure what.

Shit, this whole thing may be a ploy to completely wipe out mankind. Perhaps the final cylon won't be revealed until the fleet finds earth. He called off the attack because killing all the humans in the fleet would potentially leave that lost 13th colony on earth to pop up later and cause trouble.

So the final Cylon triggered the war, allowed the Galactica to escape, and be harassed across space in the hopes they would flee to earth. Once Galactica arrives, the final Cylon calls in the Cylon fleet to completely wipe out humanity once and for all.

Thus Starbuck would be leading humanity to its doom without herself being a Cylon. Perhaps when that time comes, the toasters will exert their newfound freewill and refuse to deliver the deathblow.

Don't ask me why but I have this strange feeling that the final cylon is The President . I can't help this feeling that once she finally succombs to her cancer her switch will be activated and she'll know her true identity ...... of course I could be wrong , wouldn't be the first time for me .

Just because it's fun. And it's neither the best or worst theory. Jonathan Golob writes a science column for the Seattle weekly tabloid, The Stranger. At any rate, from the paper's blog:

Jonathan Golob, "I Think I Know the 12th Cylon"

In the meantime, a Slog reader points to a recent article in which executive producer Ronald Moore offers unhelpful hints about the twelfth Cylon. By that article, written by TV Guide's Michael Logan, Golob's speculation is wrong. The actors allegedly don't know who the last Cylon is, either, since that episode hasn't been filmed.

And the article raises another question that only occurred to me for a moment at the end of last season; I find it interesting because I was the only one in the room who noticed, so I ended up dismissing the point almost immediately. And now here's Ronald Moore, making that very point.

At any rate, I'm being vague on purpose.

I liked the original BG series from the 70s more (minus "Boxy"

). The new series seems more like a soap opera than a sci-fi series.

The creators and actors in the new series would thank you for those comments. In various interviews Moore and Olmos have stated that they are producing a drama that just happens to be set in space. Olmos even went so far as to state that the first time they bring on an alien or force him to use technobabble he'll quit the show.
