"Sometimes is it not worth fighting for."

huh? are you asking if it is worth fighting for or did you swap some words there?

Fight = conflict. Substitute conflict, if you prefer.

I mean sometimes it's better to just let it slide. Even your "individuality".

Oh I see. I think you swapped "is" and "it" if you go back and read your post. That threw me off.

Of course you are right that sometimes it is better to let things slide. But individuality should in principle be fought for, do you not agree? I wouldn't think you would be much of a Nietzche fan if you did not!

Your picking holes. The ideals behind the statement are the same .

I would have thought ,somethings are not worth fighting for in that context.
If you are casting your own exegesis on his text then simple errors are not worth the time it's taken to write this paragraph.

Are you serious? You are saying the ideals behind the following two statements are the same?

Sometimes is it not worth fighting for?
Sometimes it is not worth fighting for.

The ideals are exactly the opposite! Read carefully next time.

Well staying an individual and not always following the "herd" is possible to do without going against the herd. Nietzsche also saw everything as a conspiracy for power. To conspire with another for more power, you do in fact give up parts of yourself. What pissed Nietzsche off, was the herd tendency to conspire to become weaker(as a group - human race, yet powerful as a group of weaklings)!

Does than makes sense? Probably not...that's why i'm in I.T.

Either you or I are missing the point , the context was

'he who fight's monsters for too long, should take care that he does not become a monster'
It was obvious he had made a grammatical error.
Look at the text, don't look for mistakes and try to understand.

(f I have had too many beers and am being tangable :cheers:i will apologise profoundly tomorrow)

    pinn,
It wasn't so obvious to me but doesn't matter. I'm in IT also so I am conditioned to be a moron in some sense....

    fan,
Interesting about conspiring with another for power. By chance, do you know if Nietzsche wrote specifically about this? Its been awhile since I read him, but I remember his "will to power" being about the power of the individual. Of course it was grotesquely distorted by the nazis subsequently, but I don't recall him talking about collections of people aspiring for power.

I recommend (henri de lubac's) THE DRAMA OF ATHEIST HUMANISM.

I've had it for a year each time I read a chapter I cease to understand something , but learn something new in it's place.

This is from "Beyond good and evil", however yes Will to Power was released in a doctor'd form by his anti-semite sister(Nietz did not like anti-semites at all). It's pretty easy to pick out what is his in the various forms of Will to Power translated, in my opinion.

    From Will to Power:

    Pinn,
Thanks, sounds interesting. Amazon is scant on details. I'll see if I'm lucky and the downtown library has it.

You say we will destroy ourselves. But why? Is it religion, nihilism, carelessness....

    niet fan,
I think the question might be - what did he have in mind when he uses the term "power" in his "will to power"? Your snippet makes it clear he thought this was the one and only driving force for us. I still have a feeling his will to power was purely the power of the individual. The scenario of a person giving up his individuality for group power might be considered a repression of the will to power as the individual loses all power to the group.

I would of thought it is inevitable.
If you can give me a reason why man is eternal I will give you 2 reasons why it is not .

"the disease called man" isn't even a sentence, how can you make that a "Nietzsche quote"?
