We have an X Box but I was thinking of getting my Son a Wii for his birthday in a few weeks. He will be 7.

Do any of you own the Wii? Would you say it is a good system?
    The pros and cons.

    Thanks

We have one and they are good fun. However, they are no good for playing on your own. You need two people or more to get the most out of it.

To me the wii has injected fun back into gaming.

He probably had to sign a 5 year contract. At least 3 years, I bet.

Its mainly based on two or more player games. What it lacks in graphics etc it makes up for in interactions between players. Its all part of aiming it for a new market as most gamers these days who play together play online which is very diff to two people playing on the same system.

The Wii is a fun console. I've been playing it around my mates this past week. On Monday we played darts on the Wii for about 5-6 hours. We played that Mario vs. Sonic game as well for a good hour or two. Time just flys when you play it, seriously, it is a lot of fun.

With some of the games you get a warning saying stuff like 'take a break', this is basically for kids - some of the games actually get you out of breath and working up a sweat. My wrist and right thumb were as sore as hell when I finished the other day.

In a nutshell, the Wii is a fun console for all the family. I think you and your son would both enjoy it.

Warning "take a break" that is kinda funny. Guess they don't want the old fukers dropping dead of a heart attack. lol

Well he has an older brother to play with him, and quite a few friends. That is why I thought this one might be good for him. My older one really wants XBOX 360. I said no because we already have an XBOX with tons of games.
I thought the games for the Wii look cool and there are alot more that a 7 yr old could play. I don't play the XBOX games because most are just too complicated, and I don't have the interest. I think that I would play more of the Wii games though.
I like the price point better than the PS3 and XBOX360 too. I guess it will all add up though, by the time I get a few controllers and accessories.

Speaking of that can you tell me what Accessories are good ones to pick up?

It can be exhausting, believe me. In the Mario vs Sonic game you have to move the remote and joystick up and down really fast. I played for hours without eating and after a while my arms turned to jelly, my hand was shaking all over the place. When it came to the darts I couldn’t throw straight.

If you're expecting both your sons to play with more friends, you should expect alot of noise and commotion. For some of the games you have to actually stand up and swing your arms around, sometimes the remote and joystick can end up being thrown around the room (though there is a wrist strap on the remote). Something mums should be aware of.

You get one remote and one joystick with the Wii Console, you’ll definitely have to buy a few more remotes and joysticks (they take AA batteries), you may have to buy other accessories with certain games but at this point I'd say leave them - the remote and joystick will be enough.

shorty i would sugest you dont, purly because my brother (who is 23 BTW) has almost managed to put the controler through his plazma on ALOT of occasions

i would doubt that a child would have as much control or the reflexes as he does when the cable snaps (ok my brother IS a bit of a child

yea the hand straps are crap, infact the ACCC was thinking about withdrawing them from the market until nintendo has fixed the problem. There have been LOTS of cases of broken windows, people hit in the head, smashes plazmas from them

My son has one and LOVES it. His friends have other systems, but they always seem to be here playing with him on his Wii.

I just asked my son if he has ever thrown his remote while playing and he said "What? Takes a certain kind of idiot to do that"
I suppose if you can hang onto a baseball bat, you should be able to hang onto a Wii remote.
