    1. In the USA, and
    2. Person to be famous.

    So your 27 Americans in Mexico don't qualify...

    I believe that most of these Americans were abducted in America "along the border". Sorry about them not being famous, though.

    The article doesn't go into the specifics of the kidnapper's demands. But kidnapping is a major source of funding south of the border, you they probably did. Although, in one case a teenage American girl was kidnapped and given as a gift to a drug lord to use as a sex slave. Any female kidnap victim not recovered quickly probably suffers a similiar fate.
