It will be really wonderful when we can stone clerks at Home Depot because they put up a sign declaring "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".

Do you ever stop complaining ? Who needs a choice when the good book is available to all ?

 

What are the biblical ideals of leadership? Biblical leaders philandered, murdered, had multiple wives, condoned and committed genocide (at least once against their fellow Jews...and *then* to make up for it, they encouraged the survivors to go out and rape as many women as possible, to rebuild the tribe) and in 1 and 2 Kings they seemed to have had a penchant for making alliances that don't quite work out. Not to mention that they were rather famously subjugated by the Egyptians, then the Babylonians and then the Romans, who ultimately scattered them.

It seems like they managed to cobble together a nation of middling power that was often able to dominate the smaller and less powerful neighbors, but that was always subject to threat from neighbors comparable and greater to themselves (and that was ultimately detroyed by those outside forces).

I know there are people who ascribe to a certain view that insights on leadership can be gained from the Bible (much as there are those who swear by Sun Tzu's The Art of War or de Saxe's My Reveries), but in the Biblical case I am not sure that the leaders referenced in it tended to follow the advice the commentators have cobbled together from its various passages.

 

The poll was obviously wrong. Our choices right now include 3 people who NEVER say a word about God or Jesus and a former minister whose only attraction is his Christianity. The Mormon who says "God Bless You" at the end of most of his speeches is despised by the other guys and the media.
