Suicide attempts always raise during times of war. War is stressful. Just because some people who WILLINGLY JOIN THE MILITARY can't handle the concept that [GARSH!] they might be deployed in harms way, doesn't mean that the military should not be used/deployed.

So, in your opinion, its alright to dump more and more young men and women into the cesspool of the Iraq occupation, because war is hell and shit happens?

What does that have to do with Berkly Marines being shut down? You change what this thread is about to suit your own agenda but never answered my questions when I changed the threads direction.

That's because this thread wasn't really about the Berkeley marines to begin with, it's about S.A.M.'s opposition to the war and her support for anything that is against it.

Mmm, right. So if someone doesn't want to talk about something, it means they support it. Gotcha. Makes a lot of sense.

The Berkeley protest against Marine recruitment is a statement that Berkeley does not want its children to be cannon fodder in an illegal occupation.

I'd think the people chaining themselves to the doors and not allowing people to get through would have provided a clue.

Well then they don't have to enlist, no compulsion to become a Marine, just personnel choice.

If you don't want your kid to be a Marine lock him in his room, and throw away the key.

If the Marines weren't getting recruits at Berkeley, they wouldn't have a Recruiting Station there, so I doubt that is is the majority of the people in Berkeley that are opposed to it.

If the people of Berkeley have stated that the Marine recruiters are unwanted uninvited intruders, they should leave. :shrugs:

    They voted against them.

Its interesting that even Americans don't want US Marines in their cities.

The council at Berkeley voted against the Marines, not the People, no referendum.

Yeah the people have been protesting for them to get out since the last four months, not the least because they are a group that practices sexual discrimination. (don't ask don't tell)

    A whole three people.

Berkeley police arrested three of the protesters who chained themselves together and blocked people trying to enter the recruiting station. They were cited for misdemeanors and released.

Unfortunately, the Berkeley City Council mental capacity fails to represent the institution of higher learning in their midst.

A well regulated militia, having sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States, is paramount to their freedom and existence. Soldiers don't start wars and they don't want to be in them when there is one but, they are ready to defend you when you need them.

The Berkeley City Council, rather than advocating its demise, needs to redirect its war opposition towards those who started the war and keep us in it.

Put the city council, and the protestors in jail, and do it now.

They are the enemy just as sure as Bin Laden is.

Berkeley City Council, please call the following number to negotiate your surrender (for Treason) and resignation (from Politics and Protests): 202-456-1414 (ask for the Commander in Chief). I am told if you surrender soon you will be treated humanely by coalition forces.

Anti-War pretestos?? You mean PRO-TERRORISTS! Stay put Marines!! Berkeley residents should hang their heads in shame. I hope they are stripped of any funds! I say take them all to Irag and let them PRTEST there.

It's sad that the military is not welcome, the very ones that defend the freedoms these jokers exploit. I'm sure the El Quida and Taliban would get the red carpet treatment. Sad, just sad.

WOW, Berkely. Pride comes before the fall. You have bitten the hand that feeds you. I will not be saddened by the decline of your wonderful city and educational institutions. You will reap the consequences of your actions. You are creating your own demise. No one will be sorry when your calamity and disgrace are exposed to the world. In due time the council and those who approve thier sayings will be ashamed of thier actions and beliefs.

Heh? The Berkeley Council passed a resolution and those 3 people are part of a group that represents the people. They take turns and have been protesting since 4 months for the Marine recruiting office to get out.

They obviously spit on the Marines, so why don't the Marines get out?

Because those people are not the majority of the populous.

They have no standing by Law.

The Marine are recruiting inductees at Berkeley, so why should they close up the Station.

There must be enough enlistment at the Berkeley Station to pay to keep it open.

The majority of opinion in the News don't support the protestors.

First off, I am against the war in Iraq. But, if the Marines and the other Armed services aren't allowed to recuit the people that want to go then there will be a draft. Then what is Berkeley going to do?

Typical. Progressives are the only one allowed to have free speech and protection of the Constitution. All others engage in hate speech or oppression. This would evidently include those men and women who serve in our Armed Services, the very fabric of our country willing to make sacrifices to allow the fools of Berkeley to exist. Perhaps the citizens of Berkeley be stripped of ALL Federal funds, including the UC campus which is so near and dear to their heart. If Berkeley wants to push its Progressive agenda on to all other Americans, then it should do so with its own tax dollars and without the support of the rest of the country.

Ermm possibly because they have a valid lease with the owner of the building. If they leave they will be deemed to have broken their lease. If the council does not own the building and they are not doing anything illegal in the building, the council cannot really demand they leave. They have a valid and legal lease and and have every right to stay there and enjoy the use of said property for the duration of that lease.

If the people do not like having Marine recruiters in their town, the solution is simple, don't go in and demand from their children they will not sign up to the Marines. The same goes for those who protest movies, books, art in galleries, etc. If you don't like it, don't go.

Because they don't represent the people. It take more than three people to show representation for the rest of the population.

The population of Berkely is 101,555, and 3 people are suppose to represent the wish's of 101,555 other people?

Eventhough I'm anti-war I'm not anti-military. This is bullshit, the Military has a right to be in Berkeley. Fucking moonbats.

I dont see why they do. I have seen some of the preditory recruitment tactics used by the US millarty and i would vote the same way. Much rather stick to the Australian system where you have to aproch the ADF. The only active actions they take is advertising on TV, at the shows ect. They dont walk around "sign up, sign up NOW"

SAM, again, you're twisting my words, which is tiresome. You can expect your posts to be systematically be deleted if it continues.

I've said this before: The whole Iraq thing is nonsense. We shouldn't be there (either you have the memory of the goldfish or you are intentionally prevaricating). Just because I'm opposed to the war in Iraq, doesn't mean I can't identify the reality of the situation and call your comments out for the nonsense they are.
