And there is a bit of truth to the fact that many, many illegal immigrants certainly do NOT arrive healthy and with a fully active immune system. Most of them were'n healthy to begin with (due to where they started from - slum areas and the like - for real!) and then they either had to walk for miles or ride in the back of a smugglers truck packed in like sardines!! Many of them have wound up dying during the trip. Does that really sound like healthy, well-nourished people to you? Not in my book, it doesn't - nor yours either I'll bet.

This doesnt work in health because as was shown in SARS people can look compleatly healthy, arive LEGALLY and still spread disease. Even if you stop ALL imigration that wont stop the spread of disease because some dont travel by human, they travel by migratory birds. So how do we deal with disease? Is the solution to close the boarders? or is it to address the social determinates of health and have a strong INTERGRATED and UNIVERSAL health system that a) encorages early treatment for illness and b) alows organisations like the CDC to learn of outbreaks as soon as the happen so they can respond early to control them

My problem with universal health care isn't the concept, it's the way the politicians want to structure it in this country. Their approach would result in health care alright, but it would be a HUGE mess - like our current Medicare program for people over 65 - and cost more in taxes than we are able to pay. Not only that, but they would actually reduce the quality of it in the process. I really have no experience with it in other countries - but here, whenever the government gets involved in ANY process, the costs ALWAYS skyrocket and the quality of the delivered product always goes down. (Do I need to remind anyone of Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans and Mississippi? The area is STILL a disaster zone - thanks to government "help.")
yes i was shocked by how poorly that went actually, if you compare it to the way that Austrlalia handled the cyclone in Queensland (sorry the name of it has escaped me, i just nicknamed it the bannana cyclone because it wiped out all the bannana crops). With in a very short time frame the former General Peter Kosgrove was there to organise everything. He had everything he wanted including defence surport to help with the clean up and he organised everything from federal and state disaster relif to medical services. He did a FANTATIC job probably because the millatry are the best organisers in the world. Why didnt the US goverment do something similar? that is SOP here for HUGE disasters. They did the same after cyclone tracy in Darwin. Im not trying to critise the US but it seems to those of us not living there that the US goverment is to focused on making money for contracters than actually getting things sorted. Maybe i am being harsh but it might also have to do with the fact that so much of our public service IS focused on statigic planing and we have so many disasters here (im speaking of masive bush fires which happen on a yearly basis). Some of my studys have drifted into MCI and disaters (both small and large) and i am constantly impressed at Australia's ability to learn from her mestakes. Some examples of this are: The inquiry after Ash Wednesday The inquiry after the Cambera fires The day of the roses inquiry The planning for pandemic flu We seem able to recover and learn well. soooo, if illegal aliens come into the US with diseases, and people who live here legally get those diseases, its the governments fault for not vaccinating? The gvmt doesn't round up people for that. Its the parents responsibility to have their child vaccinated. But its also a persons responsibility to not engage in illegal activity, such as sneaking across the border. Fist off, I NEVER even said a word about "racist" - so be just a little more careful there, OK??? And no, it's NOT the government's fault. We already have a system in place - as I already explained to you in great detail! - to make sure that EVERY child born in this county is vaccinated against SEVERAL things before they enter school. But that system is not readily expandable to cover people who show up here in a sneaky fashion. Because if we can't identify them (and they don't WANT to be identified!) just how the heck are we supposed to vaccinate them????????????????????????????????????? Apparently, you and others sure haven't thought that one through at all. And no, America is NOT dependent on tourism at all. I cant answer definitly about how to get to them except to excempt the health care system from any imigration law checks. If they feel safe aproching a health care worker then they maybe more willing to aproch them (although before you look at that you have to fix it so that americans are coverd). Sort of how the police are except from reporting people in certian cercumstances because its more important that the crime ends (for example sex slavery) than that ilegal imigration does. One question though. In a CDC investigation are all records kept compleatly confidential? Are all health records kept the same way? Im also rather surprised that tourisium is so small in the US.
