If that made sense, my response would be what do those facts say that make it OK to deliberately kill 300,000 innocent people?

Yeah, you just drop cluster bombs into civilian neighbourhoods that look like food packages.

If you're not purposely attacking innocent civilians, you must be doing it by mistake. Sandy, are you prepared to admit that your military is inept?

If you were truly a man with a mind for detail you'd have checked over that sentence of yours before you posted it. Way to completely discredit yourself.

No, I am comparing a country with....itself. The US military is world-renowned for indiscriminately blowing up its enemy's women and children with complete disregard. Only one of the many reasons the country is hated throughout the world.

I never claimed to be man with a mind for detail, I simply corrected your inaccurate interpretation of Sandy's statement.

And it's so good to know that spelling is such a high form of achievement, per your reckoning. After all, it's much easier to ignore those pesky ideas in a post if you act like a juvenile proctor and pick over minor flaws in grammar, isn't it?

And this is a completely asinine statement, with little or no evidence to back it up. Are we supposed to just take you word for the above? Wait, let me check to see if you spelled everything correctly. You did. That must make it true...

In Philedelphia, back a few years, and near Waco, Texas, something in the neighborhood of "bombing" happened.

Don't underestimate these guys - or overestimate the US public.

I don't have to prove anything. This is just some discussion forum on the internet. I am not in charge of a country or trying to prove anything to a nation. You can go look up the facts for yourself, or you can just refuse to believe me (which you probably already have), it honestly doesn't bother me either way. Since you used the word "asinine" I can already tell whose side you are on.

Sure, and all those pesky billions and billions spent on precision weapons and rebuilding in the aftermath (just talk to those poor Japs and Krauts!) are because those dastardly villains in the US are just twiddling their fingers through their curled mustaches, giggling with joy at the prospect of dead women and children.

The fact you think you don't have to "prove" anything pretty much makes communicating with you a waste of time. So have a nice day...

So it's OK if I murder your entire family just as long as I give you some cash aftewards? What difference does it make if they rebuilt what they blew up? They still blew it up. Or have I missed something and you can rebuild dead schoolchildren these days?

How many people in the US actually care about civilians dying in Iraq or Afghanistan?

How can they pretend to care and support their troops at the same time?

Well, it would take quite a PR buildup. But it isn't outlandishly impossible.

Again we see the strange trasnmutation, wherein "complete disregard" and similar accusations of callous indifference become "giggling with joy" and similar descriptions of avid intent.

This is a symptom of something.

So, let me get this straight, you think it's okay to make totally unsubstantiated claims, and then simper out excuses like, "I don't have to prove anything to you..."? Why not just howl: "YOU'RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!!!"

Part of the debate (and I know this is tough for some people) is to back up claims.

But, you're right. It's just a discussion. If, however, you lack the content of character to provide substantiative proof, then don't post. I'll do you the favor of deleting pointless drivel if you can't trouble yourself to do so.

No. And I'm not defending any of the current engagements except Afghanistan. I'm certainly not a fan of anything else done by the Bush admin. But, I do believe that some military action is necessary, and I do believe that collateral damage is a horrific side effect and that after the fact, the attacking nation owes it to any unfortunate victims to do it's best to help them rebuild.

Most Americans don't. I'm not debating that point.

You're right, it was an inappropriate hyperbole.

Nevertheless, the truth of the information is correct: the USA expends FAR more care than any nation in history EVER has to prevent collateral damage and then spends far more time and money cleaning up "the mess" than any other nation either.

A long day at work. Rash thinking.

None of us, Sam. We all relish blood-letting and indiscriminate human atrocities. We all yearn for massive destruction and death, without giving the slightest thought to the moral and ethical consequences of our country's unstoppable lust for blood.

That's what the formal debate forum is for. If this thread was meant to be a serious debate, surely that's where it would be....but it's not, so you can either make a thread there, or accept that essentially it's a bunch of morons arguing half-arsedly with a different bunch of morons.

There is a whole load of proof out there. I just don't think it's worth going out there and finding it, because I don't think it will really change any of the pro-USer's minds. Even if I provide undeniable proof, people like Buffalo will try to say those civilians were killed for their own good.

A good point... but... ahh... does anybody "win" any debates here?

Proof (at least, sources of your information) are essential to your credibility.

    Otherwise... discuss.

No, you've just seen too many cowboy films, and think the world is made up good guys and bad guys. Also, because you probably watched the A-Team in your more impressionable years, TV has taught you that no one gets injured in a firefight, and when a hand grenade goes off next to someone they just jump really high into the air and land in a pond.
