Because "Keith Ellison" (his American alias) would not get sworn in on a Bible. He demanded to be sworn in on a Koran. America does not recognize the Koran. "Ellison" ran on that name to fool voters. I doubt people in MN knew he was a muslim when they voted for him. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
The national anthem is pretty pointless. I always sit for it when I go to a basketball game. Actions matter, antiquated rituals do not.
I knew, and I'm from MN. I don't think I'd sware on the bible either since I'm a recovering catholic.
Big deal what he swears on. If someone isn't a Christian, swearing on the Bible doesn't mean jack squat. Having someone swear on a book they don't believe in is someone you gotta worry about. If ever I were to hold office, I wouldn't swear on any religious book, I'd rest my hand on a copy of the Constitution as I took oath. Who said Obama doesn't know the words to the National Anthem? "The senator himself said that "My grandfather taught me when I was 2. During the Pledge of Allegiance, you put your hand over your heart. During the national anthem, you sing". And even when asked about it during Inside Edition, they showed pics of him even sometimes placing his hand over his heart during the song. The anthem isn't a pledge to this country. As long as he places his hand over his heart during the pledge, it's all good in my book. - N
Why do you say that?? You still haven't explained it. Muslims are Americans as much as anyone else. They may not swear in on a Bible because that's not their holy book. The Bible isn't an American book, and America isn't a theocracy.
What "God" of the USA? Besides, isn't God greater than a country? Would you choose the United States over your God? You heretic, you. - N
No Congressman is sworn in on any religious book. The Constitution does not permit that, by tradition. There is a photo op, after the swearing in, where religious props are used for PR, to sucker the fundies and so forth. Keith used Thomas Jefferson's Koran, for that. Does anyone know who is pulling the strings on this Muslim crap aimed at Obama ?
That was added in 1954 to help combat the atheist Soviets the same way we added In God We Trust to our currency around the same time as well. Our country wasn't founded on Christianity, the Christians later took over this century. But yes, under God could mean any God. I'm still wondering from Sandy what that god is, and I'd love for her to go into detail. - N
Yeah, that's why I never say the pledge. Also pledging is stupid. I withhold the right to overthrow this nation if it displeases me.
But attribution to Hillary is usually part of it. It's a two-fer, all this stuff. Some of it sticks to Obama, some of the rest sticks to Hillary. If you want "bono" among the Dems, look at Edwards. But we've been down this road so many times, do we really need directions ?
Hillary is angry because she feels "Entitled" to this Election. She feels it's her turn at the troth....... she disgusts me. And the more Bill talks, the more he drops in my view.
Yes. Of course. That's it Sandy. He didn't put his hand on his heart. Guess what, I don't either (I must be evil, Muslim, [insert demeaning words]). I also don't say "pledges" to any objects (flags, nations, etcetera). They are meaningless and only serve the purpose of making superficial feel good about things that really don't matter. I consider myself to be a "patriot" but it certainly ain't because of a piece of cloth. If I do pledge allegiance to anything, it's to my own good judgment and common sense. That's all that I can really ask anybody. ~String
