You're the global mafia now. Its the dictators and autocrats you support that want to keep you around.

Its not your job to decide who elects what government. Or arm the extremists. Like arming the anti-government Sunni extremists in Iraq.

In the islands that we took from the Japanese, the military killed their own civiliians. The Japanese government ordered and encouranged their people to commit sucide as we took territitory from them. It would have been much worse when we invaded the home islands. Unfortunately, our government was forced to make a difficult decision...kill a few hundred thousands or millions. It would have been better had Japan surrendered. But Surrender was not something the Japanese did easily.
Now the Japanese our our best friends and allies. I hope our peaceful and fruitful relationship continues to prosper. We needed to forgive and move on and we have.

SAM, you are wrong. Disbanding Armies was bad idea by George II. Japan does have a standing army and Navy. Their Navy is one of the best in the world. And we often conduct joint military exercises.

you proved my point. The JSDF is their army...sure looked like army tanks to me.

    Self-Defense Forces

Japanese Sailors beside the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) training vessel JDS Kashima, in Pearl Harbor, May 4, 2004.Main article: Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force
Following Japan's surrender to the Allies at the conclusion of World War II, and Japan's subsequent occupation, Japan's entire imperial military was dissolved in the new 1947 constitution which states, "The Japanese people forever renounce war as a sovereign right of the nation and the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes." Japan's current navy falls under the umbrella of the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) as the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).

The Japanese are free to change their consitution anytime they want to, and i believe they have on occasion.

The Iranian whackos love ths type of debate. They play the Americans like a fish on a line. The Iranians don't lose regardless of what the US does or doesn't do.

Attack Iran ....vilify the leadership...make up stories ...massage intelligence reports...so what? The USA has no credibility. Go ahead and 'bomb' Iranian facilities or sink Iranian ships....what does it accomplish but to consolidate the Whackos in Iran, make the nutbar Iranian President the hero of the Muslim world and destabalize Pakistan, Aghanistann, Iraq and possibly 'goodguys' like the Saudi women-hating thug Royals. It's pathetic how Bush has played into the hands of these extremists for years. Helter Skelter at its finest. Anemic crazies have managed to reduce the most powerful nation in the world to a despised, ridiculed, distrusted heap of internal division and division with the people of the western world.

Much of the world looks at the USA and thinks lies, WMDs, propaganda, Gitmo, torture, Abu Graib. Go ahead and sink an Iranian toy boat...nobody will believe a darn thing the Americans present....or perhas the Americans can get Israel and Uzbekistan on side after bribing each of them with billions.

Keep the American fleet in the Persian gulf and stay pawns even longer on the extremists fishing line. It's become almost comical.

So if those speed boats were full of explosives, and damaged a warship, would that be justified? The US wasn't threatening the sovereignty of Iran.

By the way the United States does not get most of its oil from Arab countries. A realitively small amount comes from the gulf. Most of it comes from North and South America. The Eurpoeans are the major beneficiaries of gulf oil.

As for the Bush administration, it is coming to an end. And yes, we have a lot of work to do to restore our image.

I don't see why there should be US naval warships 12 miles off the coast of Iran.

If a known killer was circling your yard (and had already attacked your neighbors on either side) wouldn't you be wary?

Being wary is different from sending speedboats to taunt them. Would an attack on them by Iran be justified?

I believe the trend for pre-emptive strikes has been set already.

Do you blame them for not wanting American warships near their country?

True. Exceptfor the part about 'major beneficiaries'. Oil is priced on the international market. A barrel of Mexican or Canadian oil can be $90 or $290 depending on Middle East supplies. It is the US backed thugs running Saudi Arabia, the UAR, etc. who keep the taps open and have the major impact on prices.
