What's a big no no? Reposting material for which I have received no indication that it was a breach of the rules? Do you want me to post the PM SAM sent me?

Note how I was not warned for my comment regarding the comparison of child molestation with abortion. In fact, I was warned for INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE.

For the first post, not the second. For inappropriate language, not my my satire regarding child molestation vs abortion. A subtlely which no mod here seems to grasp. If I had been warned for the post regarding child molestation, then it would be case closed.
But as it is, this is just an example of incompetence on behalf of not just SAM, but the mods/admin who let this shit slide.

How can I override a decision I was not informed of? If SAM had stated that my second post was inappropriate, and it had been deleted, then I would not have reposted it. However, all I knew was that she had deleted my first post for a so called breach of conduct, and that my second post had just disappeared as well.

I don't trust Plazma either. Sometimes I get the feeling that he uses James R as a lightning rod for his mismanagement.

I'm not racist, and I consider it close to defamation to brand me as such. I'm sick and tired of being misrepresented by certain mods on this forum.

I deleted the post. I saw it reposted, no questions asked.

And I gave you warning for flaming not deletion, I could have chosen to leave the post if I thought it was useful for the discussion to continue.

I'm not. When I found my second post deleted without so much as a 'by your leave', I didn't know wtf was going on. You could have just informed me that the repost was also unacceptable, and deleted it (although, as I've already mentioned, such an approach isn't very tactful. But it's still preferential to autoban, right?). But instead, you felt it necessary to ban. That's the problem with the moderation: The always assume the worst of their posters. If you get stuck with the stigma of being a trouble-making cunt (with the stima being either rightfully or wrongfully applied), then all of the following moderation is prejudical.

It certainly would have been 'proper' of me to ask, but I couldn't have been bothered expending the effort on my shit slow connection! Still, I think it just a 'little' bit harsh that you would ban me for what could be chalked down to a misunderstanding/laziness, and it fits perfectly with your targeting of me.

If you cannot be bothered to extend yourself to be understood, don't expect me to hold your hand and cry over dial-up difficulties.

Sometimes I delete 20-30 posts in a thread. Do you think I'm going to explain all of them? Deleted posts are just that, deleted. For whatever reason. If you care so much about the particular post, ask. If you repost without asking, its over riding moderation.

 

You're welcome. I will also erase the last ban from your record, so that officially you are still at the 7 day ban stage of the 3, 7, 14, 30 day ban cycle.

On a personal note, I dislike having these fixed time bans except when I believe the person is deliberately flaming. I am going to take your word that your intention is not to flame and take you off the watch list. Which means that any decision to ban you will not be made by me.

That is as much as I can do for you in my capacities.

On a separate note, I am always open to questions about moderation and have frequently reversed infractions and warnings after discussion with posters. Sometimes all you have to do is ask me why.

That is what moderation is. Subjective. Not mechanical/

I actually have quite a history with MH. Our first interaction was over Holocaust denial, which may have biased me against him a bit, but after several interactions with him, including PMs I have seen his contribution to discussions at sciforums.

This does not mean I should not have deleted his post or he should not have been banned. Rather, this discussion showed me that he considered himself a "target" which he was not, except as a frequent flamer. That too, appears to be due to a sense of injury over being labeled a racist.

In my years (two almost!) on this forum, I have seen how unreliable labels can be. So my gesture to him is both a peace offering, a courtesy to a long time member and faith in his word and my judgement of his interactions with me. A faith experiment if you like.
