I was watching the new today and hundreds of people are due not to get they're parcels that they ordered from the internet, for various reason.

    1. If they dont have the item in stock, (example loads of people have ordered nintendo WII'S and the shopd dont have them)

    2. If the online companies left it to late to post your items.

    3. Also the British Mail staff are ploughing through the post slower this year.

    ----------------

But my issue is with British MAil (sorry if any of you work for them i really am), but the cost of postage goes up nearly every year, and the service we get is second class to many other countries in the world, i was actually at home waiting for my parcel a few weeks ago, and i actually walked around with a mobile door chime, and at about 5:00 i went to the front door and there was this red card on my door mat saying "we're sorry we missed you" but they didnt knock the door or ring the bell.

Also One time i paid extra to have 6 concert tickets posted by recorded delivary, and the post man left them with my neighbour when i suppose to sign for them.

And on a few occassions, we were expecting parcels and important letters, and we found them in the bin outside our house,

The service is getting more and more expensive but its getting more and more down graded. WHY??

also if your one of the hundreds of people who will not get they're christmas items i am sorry, (not that, that means much right now)

When you have 300 to 400 delivery's per year (guessed) to every house you are bound to get error's especially at Christmas. I have also had a number of problems over the years but day to day I think we get a very good service.

that is total tosh! they should do they're jobs properly, if you went into hospital for an operation is it exceptable for them to say, "oh its ok, mistakes are bound to happen"?

we pay way to much, and we get rubbish service

Umm you seem be getting very mixed up here. Lets look at the staff employed to do these jobs.

Doctor = 7 Years of study and continued keeping abreast of his subject.

Postman = Unqualified bloke who can't do much better for himself. Min training using a child's toy whereby you put the correct shape in the hole (age 6 Months Up).

So you expect the same level of service from these two people?

I am working as a postman just now and I can tell you right now you just don't understand how completely overloaded we can get at Christmas. I'll tell you just why there are all these mistakes later on in this post.

It's not a case of insufficient staff or too many managers but the sheer amount of crap we get. Ebay and Amazon are the main reasons for this at Christmas. People used to go out to shops for everything, now they can order things online.

Over the past few weeks things started to get pretty heavy, bordering on ridiculous last week.

Monday is usually a very quiet day. Last Monday was so heavy I had 3 or 4 times as much mail as I normally have. I had so much mail that I couldn't even fit it all in one bag. I had to take my own car and deliver the mail out of the boot. Thankfully I have a very large boot. That's trunk to the fickle/illiterate.

Where before there would be one bundle of mail in a certain bag we are talking 4. There are so many parcels at Christmas Royal Mail have to assign additional drivers to each area just for the parcels. There were about 10 times as many parcels per day on my route than usual.

The SHEER volume of Christmas cards was what added so much bulk, and to add to that, half of them had no postcodes or incorrect addresses. You just CANNOT blame us when people can't write the correct address on an envelope. That means we have to find out which house they have to go to, which in turn leads to errors and missing mail and it's just not our fault.

Then there are the people who order something special delivery when they know they won't be in the next day to sign for it. This is fine usually but this leads to a ridiculous amount of parcels sitting in the depot waiting to be collected, queues, and once again incorrectly addressed parcels causing hold-ups and confusion. People seem to think we all have some magic computer that sorts out the right address, but we don't. If you don't write the correct address on the mail it might not end up at the right house, and that is YOUR fault, not the postman's.

It's fine to say we're incompetent when you haven't done the job, but if you saw the sheer amount of crap we get at Christmas you'd change your mind.

Here in The States the mail service is amazing. I am in awe of how much mail is moved to the correct addresses each and every day. My mailman knows my wife and me by sight and by name and comes to the door when he thinks a package or envelope is extra important.

When I go away for a period up to a month I can place my mail on hold and the post office holds it until I return to pick it up. When I go to Florida for the winter my mail is rerouted from my Long Island address to my Florida address.

All this for forty one cents an envelope.

I salute the U.S. Postal System and the postal workers.

I think it's more like 1000-1500 on average per year.

    oh yes i would!!

the postal service costs way to mich, and the people who post letters seem not to be able to read, because we get mail for people who live three streets accross.

also when you pay EXTRA for postal insurance, (recorded delivary) then you expect to sign for the items and not to be left with a neighbour.

change my mind hAHAHAHAHA yeah ok!

Out of interest what was wrong with the item being signed for by your neighbour? Did your neighbour steal the tickets?

How can you say it costs way too much? The price of sending a letter is ridiculously cheap, packages too. Have you looked around?

How often do you get mail for people who live 3 streets away?

I'll put it this way - It's impossible as a mere human being to sort and deliver 1500 letters (I'd say that was an average day) without making a single mistake. If you keep getting the wrong mail you just have a postie who doesn't give a shit.
