I like animals, but how is it any worse than watching the animal channel and seeing one animal rip another animal into shreds as it suffers, like when lions attack a zebra and rip it's flesh until it falls? I see no difference. We're animals too.

What Enmos means is. There is no reason for you dog to have a mink coat.
It is crazy!!! If you wanted a coat for him why not a fake fur one?????

I think he looks like he should be attatched to Paris Hilton!

That, and his example isn't remotely the same thing as buying fur.

Minks are raised to be skinned. They don't skin them while they are alive and then throw them away. Minks are well taken care of. If they weren't their fur wouldn't be in good condition.
Cows are raised for meat and leather but people get bent about fur.

I think your dog looks cute. I take it you live in a cold climate?

I know because when my mom died she had a couple of real fur coats too. My Dad asked if I wanted them, and I said no...not my kinda thing. I think the days of REAL fur is out!! Anyway I took this boa (kinda scarf) that belonged to one of the coats. My dog found it and ripped it too shreads.
I walked in the door one day and there was white fur everywhere

I guess he figured it was an easy fight! LOL

Anyway my Dad sent the coats to Europe, along with most of my moms clothes and things. Everything is very expensive over there and they divide it amongst themselves whoever likes what, it is theirs. Whatever they don't want they give to the homeless shelters there.

I didn't mean that.....Some of my relatives in Poland (Dad's side) are a bit on the poor side. They say clothes are very expensive there too. So every yr he sends them a few boxes of clothes and stuff.

Oh on my mom's side Germany.....Money is no object lol SNOBS

But we need to eat meat as part of a stable diet - but we no longer need fur as we have clothing - we have elvolved - there should be no reason to kill animals for their fur.

And alot of animals are skinned while they are alive as the fur is in better condition - I know for a fact that dogs get skinned alive.

That is just horrible. Whoever does that should be skinned alive themselves and see how it feels.

Orly, you're more intelligent than this post suggests. I'd argue that mink locked up all their lives and then killed are not well taken care of, regardless of being fed.
I also get bent over cows being raised for meat and leather, but that's for another thread.

Maybe, but I don't see how they would make much money off it. Stressed animals lose hair. And mink are not pack animals, they can't be crowded. But I suppose if they can breed them fast enough (like a puppy mill) maybe they offset loses that way.

And you're gonna have to prove to me that its standard practice to skin any mammal alive.

I'm not interested in the commercial viabiltiy of breeding animals for their fur, just the ethical concerns, of which there are many.

I didn't say anything about skinning mammals alive, but since you mention it I can tell you it does happen....
