Help me build a computer.

Instead of wasting money on a crappy prebuilt, I've decided to build a new computer. Trouble is, I have no idea how to. I'm aiming for a gaming to multimedia pc


Firstly, what parts do I need exactly? I know of the following:

Motherboard
Processer
Video Card
Sound Card
HDD
Memory
OS
Case

What else would I need? And can anyone help in locating the parts? I think locating the parts is harder than putting the piece together, because I've put stuff together before and shouldn't have too much trouble from what I've read. Well, appreciate the help, and don't post if you're just going to call me an idiot. Thanks anyway.

I have my own dsl modem, but would I need a network card on the pc or is it unnecessary?

 

that dsl modem needs to be connected to what usb or LAN adapter? because if its LAN that you need to buy a LAN interface.

 

It's connected to the ethernet port at the back of the pc

 

well than if you already got ethernet port...no need to worry about it.

what sort of motherboard are you going to use? fans?

 

Help me find one, then, a motherboard for Intel processers. Don't fans come with the case?

You need a power supply.
You need a good heatsink for the CPU.
You need a CD/DVD drive
You may or may not need a sound card depending on the motherboard (many come with on board sound nowadays).
You may or may not need a network card (many motherboards come with on board gigabit ethernet nowadays).
I would recommend an extra case fan (used for exhaust around the region of the cpu) for your ATX case if it doesn't already have one.

 

The key question is, how much do you have to spend?
For a gaming system:
power supply: 400-500 watts or more
motherboard: One with 4 ddr2 ram slots, and sata 3.0 controllers...forget onboard video. Look for good overclocking controls
Video card: Nvidia 8 series pci express x16
Hard drive: Sata 3.0
Memory: 2 gb or more

Let me see, can you get a 22 inch monitor, 2 gb ddr 2, 250 gb sata 2, keyboard, mouse, and the computer itself for like 800 bucks? Didn't think so! Go buy a Dell and save yourself some real money, by the time you bought the OS you'd be screwed and that money you think you'd save would be gone.

This is what people think today ehh? You get better deals buying off Dell or HP or something than building them yourself, if you really wanna build something get a new PSU when you buy the prebuilt and slap in a killer videocard, then you're gone.

 

depends were Norsefire lives...in Russia its cheaper to buy individual components and assemble together. In USA, package deals are better.

This is just the box..no keyboards or monitor or whatever. A machine like this will last you a long time, is fully upgradeable and has all grade-A components.


With the $ being as low as it is I guess you can buy a system like this in the US for about 1000$

 

Get the Nvidia 8800 GT for gaming, if you're into that sorta stuff, If not, stick with a mid grade card.
