Cold Sores

You can indeed have Herpes Simplex Type 1 or Type 2 on your lip. Also vice versa.

Type 2 is the most commonly sexually transmitted type....therefore it carries the label of STD.

Both are contagious and both are painful.

I have never heard such as a baby only having a 50 / 50 chance....I am pretty certain this is grossly incorrect!!!!! Although, treatment should be done immediately.

Babies do not develop their own immunity for a while after birth, so they are very susceptible to acquired diseases.

Both are also treated with the same medications. I have cold sores on the center of my upper lip. Cold sores are treated with the same medications that HSV-2 are treated with.

A cold sore does not necessarily mean herpes.

The Varicella-Zoster virus is responsible for: Cold Sores, Chickenpox and Shingles. Once you have it in a particular place it opens up channels through the skin. Most times a pimple will also appear on a regular basis in the same area. Dirt and the grease from your skin and what not takes the least path of resistance and ends up in or near the same place most of the time.

 

I had a long discussion about this in the past. We came up with several sources and concluded that oral herpes (HSV1) CAN be trasmitted to the genitals, and it happens 10% of the times

Last year a lady friend of mine got Gonorrhea in her nose and throat from oral. So be on the look out cause you NEVER know.

 

You can get "cold sores" on your eyelids or even your cornea. We just don't call them cold sores. We call it herpetic keratitis.

Generally, a red eye and a feeling like there's something in your eye. Initial outbreaks are usually easily treated with Viroptic. But in some patients you get multiple recurrences that can lead to scaring and be more difficult to manage. Here's an eye with scarring from recurrent herpetic keratitis:

Notice how hazy the cornea is. The best vision was only 20/200.

Even though it's advertised for genital herpes, Valtrex is extremely effective for cold sores. I have taken it for cold sores on my lip and they are gone within 1 day. You have to catch it initially when it is starting to form, otherwise it will not be effective once the cold sore is in its full form.

 

aciclovir heals cold sores completely in 5-7 days

 

I meant the eye disease guys. Not regular ol cold sores.

I'm not sure if any of you have answered this accurately!

HSV 1 & 2 are spread by skin to skin contact. That means you can have HSV 1 down there and HSV 2 up there. Many medical professionals are not up to date on the facts of this disease and you will hear several different messages from more than one professional. Regardless, it's a herpes sore and is contagious to any part of your body. The only way to determine which it is, is through a swab test. A blood test will only tell you which version, if not both, of the types of antibodies found. It cannot tell you where the origination of it is from. So unless you have been cultured, which are often false negatives, you cannot know which type you have and where. There is also viral shedding that can be transmittable even without sores. So if you have oral sex with someone that gets cold sores, even they do not have an active sore, it can transmitted to your genital area. The place of the sore is not a 100% sign of which type you have. This is coming from someone who has done extensive research because I have it. Both types, only confirmed by blood test. I almost positive I have an active sore right on the tip of my nose! It could be HSV 2 for all I know. I don't care, because it doesn't matter at this point. It's a sore, is a sore, is a sore! HERPES sore! Oh yeah, there are canker sores and cold sores. Cold sores are HERPES!
