Should fat people pay more for seat in a plane?

I think they should, because it's all down to the weight.
If my luggage is over the 20kg limit, I have to pay more,
so why not the persons who weight more than me + 20kg?

I think people should be wighted at the check in just like luggage is, and they should pay according to their weight. It's very fair, because it all comes down to the cost of lifting and transporting that weight.

Another idea is that planes should have a seperate section or seats for obsese people, seats where smaller people could fit into too,
so that your personal space is not violated by someones elses excess fat.

And if they can't fit into one seat, pay for two seats.

    Your thougths?

I'm pretty sure that no company would ever do something like that---Europeans and Americans are becoming larger and larger, and why would a company risk alienating a large portion of their consumers. Pretty stupid from a free-market point of view.

Over a certain weight, they either pay for a first class ticket, 2 seats or they take Greyhound. Good luck trying to weigh people at check in though.
I will kick your ass if you make me. lol

What if you're just really tall? Should you pay more then? Discriminating based on body characteristics that one has no controll over?

80% of adult Americans are overweight. Most of them fly. Airlines raising prices for fat people would be the final nail in their already pathetic coffins.

Taller people usually buy business class seats to have more legspace,
fat people just use the space of others in the seats besides.

Ya got control over the fat part!
Tall people usually get the very front seats where there is more leg room.

But don't you think it would be fair?
We pay for the luggage and if the person without the luggage weights more than me with it, shouldn't he pay for the excess weight?

    It's not discrimination
Discrimination is when people in similar conditions get treated differently.
A person who weights 150kg and takes up 1,5 seats is not in the same condition as me who takes up one seat and doesn't disturb others by violating their purchased space.

I guess I look at it this way:
You take a bedspread to the dry cleaner, you should pay more than the guy who brings a towel.
You want more, you pay more.

I have feelings that would back up such a policy.
I also have feelings that people should not be weighed when they come to airports.
I am not sure how to weigh - ha, ha - these two reactions I have. Right now it is not enough to advocate a change in policy. That might change.

They have policies regarding age. Under the age of 2 they get a cheaper ticket or they can sit on a parents lap. Of course, they have to have proof of their age.
Anyways, if they have age rules, why not weight rules. Anyone over 300 lbs has to either pay for 2 seats or a first class seat. The weight of the plane is directly tied to the safety of the flight.

Why? WHat's the difference between the weight of luggage and the weight of a person?
It's still the same kilograms that have to be transported.

And look at it this way: children would get cheaper tickets, as well as it would be one more motivation to fat people to eat less, and you wold get what you pay for and wouldn't have to share your space with someone else who hasn't paid for it.

I think it's very fair to everyone.

If you're that fuckin fat and physically take up two seats, then hell fuckin yeah you should be charged more...double, in fact.

Why on earth should some 300+ lb dude (or chick) that is literally twice the size of a ~150lb person, only pay for one seat?
Have any of you ever sat next to a fattie on a plane whose poor little single seat their sitting in, can barely hold their fat ass? God forbid that you sit in a center seat flanked by two land manatees.

    You are correct Orleander:

Concerning the bold, even having to sit next to a person in that situation sucks, because they wind up hogging your arm rest (forget about even thinking about resting your arm there), or worse, the part of their fat rolls that bursts through the arm rest seams, spills over into your chair.

Why stop with heavy people on airplanes, Avatar. Why not make them pay more to sit in the bleachers at baseball games? After all, they take up more bench space. How about people who eat all the expensive stuff at all you can eat buffets? Should they pay more because they are getting more for their dollar than the person who eats the veggies and soup? Maybe we should start making people pay for public schools based on how many children they have attending those schools since the more children you have attending the greater the amount of goods and services you are receiving. People with iritable bowel syndrome should be made to pay for the use of public toilets because they tend to use far more toilet paper than other people.

Once you start instituting differential payments based on body type or previous condition you open a large can of worms.

    Slippery slope, Till Eulenspiegel.
I'm discussing only airplanes, where weight is a very important factor and space is at the premium.

the weight of the plane is directly tied to its safety. I think even a fat person would understand that. Would they want to fly on an unsafe flight?

Planes are designed to accommodate everyone being overweight. Theres no safety problem there.
