That's harsh. I just downloaded stuff from them last week. Now it's gone...
Looks like Pirate's Bay is about to get a whole lot more popular.

Or, they could move to Switzerland. After all, the move to Canada was recent. Not sure where they were before. Interesting that it was the CRIA that shut them down. Does anything actually come from the Canadian Recording Industry? It's like being threatened by the Keebler Elves or something.

    YES!!!!!

Man, I've been HATING the Pirate's Bay.

This is an awesome day... assuming, of course, that it's not a honeypot.

An example of the awesomeness of Demonoid.

For the past few weeks now I've been trying to find and download Wagner's Siegfried Idyll. I went to see it (along with two other pieces) at the symphony a while back and wanted to have the piece before and after to become more familiar with it.

    I could not find it.

All the searches I performed led me to... Demonoid. Demonoid's non-working torrent list.

    So.
The first thing I search for when Demonoid comes back?
    Yup. The Siegfried Idyll.
    And wham! There it is.

Not only is it there but it's there.
After all these months of inactivity, a piece of music that I could not find anywhere is still available for download at Demonoid.

    Demonoid fucking rocks!

Just tried the site and it is down but they warn of that. Yes, this is very good news, demonoid is the best. However, to me the current torrent king is Mininova which has very good content and now has a thank you button that makes it easy to rate a torrent which in turn make it easier to see if a torrent is to standard.

    Wow.

I cannot believe this. Amazing news. Life has been hell since Demonoid went down...

You're totally right Invert; Demonoid was always a place I knew I could find great stuff like Wagner or Rimsky-Korsakov, to say nothing of excellent old flicks..

Mininova is just one of those sites that searches other bittorrent sites, yes?
Many of my 'mininova' searches led to nonfunctioning demonoid links.
Then, you have the issues with viruses. Demonoid is good about weeding out bad files.

Umm, Demonoid has been down for months, Miniova is gone. BTjunkie is timing out, but its back now.

What bittorent sites are worth using these days?

i switched to newsgroups, its much faster, no downtime and no anti-piracy groups can touch that.

I don't understand? I just use PirateBay and isoHunt  I miss Mininova though.... and there were so many people in places like Iran who could ONLY get their hands on certain media we'd deem mainstream through sites like that. Now they have no way of finding certain types of information not approved by the government.

As s0meguy noted, newsgroups are, technically, a much better means of distribution. Torrents are, admittedly, easier, but they're basically just a different means of acquisition. Newsgroup distribution and ftp distribution precede torrents, and are much more reliable.
