Infractions are useless. I favour Insta-Ban.

Never abolish infractions. All criminals must be punished.

For how much I hate getting infractions out of nowhere for really stupid/accidental/unintentional stuff, I do think we need it to keep the inmates under control. Otherwise there would be a personal attack free-for-all.

I would think the mods should each summarize why they think the infraction sys is correct or not.

I say we start a petition to bring Satyr back for that very reason.

I vote abolish it. Moderation here has gotten biased and inconsistent to the point that no one really gives a rat's ass if they do get infracted; the mods are just wasting their time by administering them.

The infraction system requires a lot of work, argument, and is generally treated like a joke.

Better to have a simple banning system:

First offense results in a one day ban.

Second offense results in a two day ban.

Third offense results in a three day ban.

    And so on.

I was thinking of maybe something like a red flag warning for the first offense. The next offense within a short period of time, say two hours, would result in a short ban of only a few of hours. Each successive offense would double the ban period. After a set number of days, say 30, the bans would begin to be eliminated one by one, the oldest first of course. Is it possible to set up forum software to handle something like this automatically?

I am trying to think of something to allow a period of time for tempers to cool, or to limit trolling posts. The current infraction system seems to only encourage abuse. A poster can make 4 or 5 offensive posts in a row without any real penalties, just esculating the situation.

I changed Spurious's VOTE to Yes, this is why even though it appears he voted No the vote is actually in the Yes group (At time 9 people on each option, 10 for YES and 8 for No)

    Yes. It's pointless.
Bit ominous. It would surely make more sense to discuss these beforehand. Can you say more?

    I don't think they should.

Everybody here ought to have an opinion on the infraction system by now. Either you think it is a good idea, or you don't. If you're undecided, don't vote.

Initially I thought the notion of abolishing the Infractions to be ridiculous; I think the site would rapidly fall into en masse rampant stupidity without some modicum of control. However, there have been some good pro points made, and we've all either experienced or witnessed some questionable calls.

I propose a compromise: peer review. Infractions can be meted out by anyone to anyone. Obviously, there would be some initial silliness and mass accumulations, but democracy can work, it just takes time. There would just have to be some adjustments made to the number of amassed infractions required to merit a penalty. The advantage to this system would be that over time, it truly would signify what the majority of members believe to be behaviour that is deemed inappropriate.

    vox populi

Holy, I thought you were joking...

Yet, if you notice, my proposal wasn't an option in that poll.

Regardless, what happened to the members on this site????

Nietzsche was right it seems... what a bunch of sheep.
