Why Is It So Hard For Most People To Admit That They Are Wrong?

    Very simple.
And, yes, one can make arguments about subjectivity of right and wrong, about everyone having an opinion, about this, that, the other. But, the premise is simpler that.
The premise shows that the respondent is choosing what he answers very particularly. He's choosing what to answer so as to not answer that which would lessen his argumentative stance.
This shows quite clearly that this particular person isn't dealing with the subjectivity of right and wrong.
Rather, he/she simply wants to win.
    Why?
    Because they're watching.

"Life is just a show. People laughing as you go. Remember that the last laugh is on you."

I think most people don't admit they are wrong because they think that somehow that makes them look weak. But, in my opinion, the result is the exact opposite. It shows insecurity. Truly confident and emotionally intelligent people know they may be wrong and they acknowledge it.

Most people aren't wrong, they just get their facts confused.

Wrong. I'd check your facts if I were you.

A common ploy is to use a lot of vulgarism and profanity. I've encountered it even in this Human Science section of the SF forum. Mostly, as you indicate, all this is subconscious as we each have a self-agenda need to protect our self-image.

I notice that some posters never put down any more at a time other than a few "cute" one-liners. I think they are afraid to post anything else for fear of being "shot down." Others, at least in other forums, copy material from other sources into seeminly endless posts that no one in their right mind bothers to read.

A lot of high-sounding words and convoluted sentences is a sign to me that the poster is just trying to befuddle and confuse the readers into assuming that he knows what the fuck he's talking about.

If you can't say it in just a few words, it's likely not worth saying on the sciforums boards.

Well Baron is it wrong or right ? Or is it completely, totally subjective... ?

It's both. It's right and it's wrong. It's moral as well as being immoral.

"I'm right, and you're wrong!" is absolutely correct ...regardless of what's being discussed or who's discussing it.

1+1=38 is most definitely incorrect.. nothing subjective about that :bugeye:
Things can be absolutely right or wrong.

I don't know ....there might well be a base number system where that is, in fact, correct.

If there are such things, there sure as hell ain't many of 'em! And I'm still leaning heavily to there being no such absolutes in the world.

Let's say I have got one apple, you have got one apple and there is an empty basket on the ground. Now the both of us put our apple in the basket. How many apples are in the basket ?
Seems pretty basic to me that there can't be 38 apples in the basket now.

Things like the earth is circling the sun, water has a greater density than air etc. are absolute truths. There are many.

There's three in the basket ....'cause one apple fell off the tree into the basket while we were busy picking up the apples!

No, the earth's orbit is elliptical, not circular.

Absolute truths are pretty hard to come by!

    Well there you have it,
there are three apples in the basket because one fell from the tree into the basket --> absolute truth (at that particular moment).
And the earth's orbit is elliptical --> absolute truth.

Not perfectly elliptical - there are perturbations from other planets. Over enough time the state of the solar system is in fact chaotic.

But for most purposes, elliptical is close enough

People do not like to be wrong because school teaches them to avoid being wrong. School penalizes you for being wrong, and gives you an A+ for being right. Consequently, people are trained by our education system to vehemently dislike being wrong. Blame the education system that trained us.

Bare is spelled bear for the way you spell it means neked, without clothing.

So you are already wrong about not being wrong mister bear.
