Do you use Mandriva? I've been playing around with Ubuntu for the past few months, its pretty cool. I wanna play around with a few other distros now.

That task bar resembles windows a lot.

Yeah because Windows invented the task bar and all. Is there an actual reason why you all hate windows? Or is it hip-hip to hate windows these days?

I also feel that Bill Gates hasn't got quite enough money. Linux is probably brilliant. I'll never try it though, it's probably a load of old rubbish.

Windows stinks when you install it on 1990 hardware. Try upgrading.

Only if you stick with the defaults. KDE allows to shape the desktop exactly as you wish.

KDE is the worst piece of interface written for a operating system. It's not centralized and all the short-cut keys differ from every other interface. Also, you get a free bloated menu. In windows, most, if not all, the short-cut keys remain the same regardless of the windows version.

I installed Ubuntu on my Quadcore with 8 gigs of RAM.....people on the ubuntu forums said Linux has support for multi-core better than Windows from the very start. Funny thing was the whole OS was slow and "stuttering" when multi-tasking heavy. In Vista, i can multi-task fine without stuttering. Strange. I can also set the affinity of the processor WITHOUT installing any additional software (in linux you have to install that cpu-affinity thing).

Why have you gone all on the defensive for Vista? This thread is about an upcoming release of a new Mandriva Linux version. It has nothing to do with Windows or your preferences and insecurities.

    I'll quote the Mandriva website:

Forgive their sentence structure, they're French.

It's an obvious (if futile) attempt to chip away at the Microsoft monolith.

In my world, everyone uses Windows. The concepts are through, standard, and innovative....the cost is low (long-term). Anyone who argues this point, obviously has no experience with technical infrastructures or standard OS concepts.
Linux is nothing but useless. I have yet to see where Linux has proven it's ground (I have several machines with Ubuntu, Mandrake, and Redhat). Everytime I use a graphic interface, everything crawls when multi-tasking. Only time it doesn't is when I use it as a terminal. Why would I run a terminal in this day of advanced technology? I don't think so.

I support open source software but when it comes to operating systems, windows just can't be beat. Even OSX is faster than Linux when using graphic interface (sorry but mac osx isn't linux kernel).

How so? I use whichever OS is best suited for a particular task.
Windows XP for video and sound editing, because there is no comparable software for Linux.
    Fedora Core for home Desktop.
    And Mandriva for laptop.
It's a logical choice - at least for me.
