By telling them not to kill ants for fun because it serves no purpose you actually are giving them a moral lesson that says it is not morally sound to kill animals for fun. Do you agree ?

I come from a hunting family. Hunting and bringing down the animal (killing it) is fun for them. If it was a chore, they wouldn't travel as far and as often to do it.

what? They are killing the animal for fun. Fun with a purpose. I said my kids have to be killing ants for a purpose for me to be ok with it.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU WANT FROM ME!!!!!!!!!!!!:runaway:

You said you would tell your kids to stop killing them if they were doing it in the driveway.
    I asked why.
You said because it serves no purpose.
Then I said that by telling them to stop because killing them for no purpose you were actually giving them a moral lesson that says that it's not morally sound to kill animals for fun.
Now you say you consider fun to be an acceptable purpose.

    I am confused.

You can kill an animal for fun, BUT it has to have a purpose. If my kids were killing an animal, just for the heck of it, I would tell them to stop.
(but I'm not gonna get too upset over an ant)

give an example of a purpose? and if you found pleasure in doing it wouldnt you then just try to come up with some purpose? Why not just eliminate the fun part of the lesson?

So as fun is secondary to purpose here we finally seem to agree somewhat.
Now my question is: why would you tell them to stop ?

they either have to be protecting something (the lawn, the trashcan, their sister) or they plan on eating it.

Because if they were killing it to just be killing it, there is no purpose. I don't care how happy it made them. If they kill it in the driveway for pleasure, they are eating an ant sandwich for lunch.
