They'd better work on artificial gravity, because doing virtually anything in zero gravity is damned difficult without lots of practice ...and it's still difficult.

they will not do that because people come for weightlessness to space, not gravity. And 3 days is sure a small time to get acquainted and be bored by being weightless.

Looks like an interesting design with a notable lack of right-angles, but I'm putting my money on Bigelow for the first fully operational space hotel. They already have two prototypes in orbit.

 

Where's the potty? Where do they throw away stuff? Where do they store food, water, and other various living needs? If a meteorite hits it, is it able to reseal or what? Many things need answers befor that goes into orbit.

 

ofcourse there will always be an ample supply of rich with nothing better to do with their money than to spend it on 4.7 million dollar space hotels. lol.

 

The reason the rich are rich is they don't spend their money on foolish, unprofitable ventures.

they are not they only company claiming this, i was reading several articles on this subject about 2 days ago actualy. apparently a number of people are saying they will have orbital hotels up and running before 2020.


some are more serious looking than others, they are using old nasa parts for construction, i think 1 or 2 organisations have already got contruction underway and are nearly halfway throug. i read about galactic suite and i think it is them who have not even started building, everything is still on paper only.


prices were estimated to run between 80-200 thousand $/£ per 3 day stays.

The terrorists will be happy about these up there. Imagine having people trapped inside one of those and terrorists take it over from the ground and threaten to let it decay orbit until their demands are met.

Hmmm, since I am 100% sure that no space hotels are going to be shaped like wheels and spin to create an artifical gravity, how will guests keep their bone and muscle mass without actually putting a strain of them? I'm also pretty sure that guests won't pay several thouands of dollars just to work out in space either...

 

The average guy who can spare 4.7 mil for something as publicly as this don't usually give a *** abouth their physical wellbeing

 

They will be required to wear magnetic boots. That way they stay firmly attached and get a workout trying to move around picking up one foot after the other.

 

Somehow I doubt it will happen, but I love surprises, so who knows. The thing is, how much will it cost to operate and maintain? And once all of the guests that can spare $4.7 mil have gone in and out, there won't be many people left to spend money on it (thus supporting the hotel).

From an amateurs point of view, I think it might make the most sense, to start the price at $4.7 mil, but drop the price after a certain amount of time or when a quota is reached. With each price drop, more people might be inclinded to spend the money, and the people who already went will think "Hey i'll be getting a deal."

Unfortunately, that won't account for the people who think "I'll wait a little longer for the price to drop even more."

 

There's always a lottery system. A nearby radiostation is actually gathering the money to send on of it's listners up altough it won't be in a space hotel yust a cheap orbital jump.
