We all do things that are wrong, we all get away with those things but do we really get away with them?

I thought of this amny times and the Padilla thread brought it to the forefront again. I don't know much about him but checked his Wiki page and see that he killed someone with a kick to the head when he was a gang member. Now he is doing life, sure we can say they are totally unrelated but are they really?

What about hurting yourself with bad habits\behavior? be it drug abuse, eating bad stuff, promiscuity or just circumstances and decisions we make. You can hide it and never get caught but will it catch up to you?

If you see money fall from someones pocket, pick it up and keep it will you pay for that? even in a small way.

And if not in this life what about the next? Seems to me we would be held accountable for our actions. Is there even the slightest possibility that this life is a test for fitness to go on to another world, another place?

Dont flame me or look at this with religious bias because this is not intended to be a religious thread. I guess there is another thread like this:shrug:

Oh, yeah, I get away with shit all the time.
Like, mischievous shit that neither my parents nor others find out about. So, no trouble at all getting away with it.

None of it is truly harmful, so it's not necessarily wrong/bad/evil/unethical. So, no true problems are ever raised.

We only get away with things that our conscience only allows us to. Once we don't care about what we do is when we think we are getting away with it.

That is a part of us that controls what we are as a human and what we do in the moral aspect of life.

conscience. Yes, if you are not subjected to laws that will punish you for your actions or even if they do not rise to that level you still may be afflicted with guilt OR actual physical problems.

The other day i went to a diner. On my way there it just popped into my head 'bless the righteous immigrant'. This was weird because, i dont know where it came from, it was my thought but the randomness of it was odd. When i leave the diner the worker (Mexican immigrant or something like that) handed me a small piece of cake and said 'free'. For some reason it did not surprise me, but when the hell do you get anything for free? I just ordered something to take with me and didn't even talk to the guy.

Hapsburg, that is exactly what i mean. You are certain you are 'getting over' but will that bad action catch up to you in a bad way? Not you of course i am talking about actual harmful stuff, weather it harms another person or yourself.

if it goes against instinct/universal law, guilt is there to keep us from destroying the universe.

however, laws today are for the lowest common denominator, so when you break those and dont care, of course you get away with it.

You bet. I've abused the carpool lane so much that if I was caught everytime and ticketed, I would probably have paid a cool million. The actual total amount I had to pay was less than $1000.

If we think we did something wrong, then we don't get away with it, because our thoughts, conscience, will punish us, until we realize that we did nothing wrong.

No one can do anything wrong because no one chose to exist and become the person they became. The only wrong you can do is to think that you can do something wrong.

No, Karma does not exist. Good things happen to bad people, and bad things happen to good people. Getting away with something just means the enforcer missed it. This, of course, can embolden and lead to more riskier behavior where the person gets caught. Some people never get caught.

Not necessarily. Guilt is the emotion. It is what does the punishing, not the conscience. I have a theory that the conscience extends infinitely and is part of a universal self-perception. This could be wrong however, so if a person dies the universe couldn't give a lick of difference. Or so goes the theory. The reason I say it could likely be otherwise is because it is believed that matter contains information. This would probably explain why some people can touch something and can re-trace its history to some extent. Atheists believe that a psychic web is the most rational explanation, but if subjectivity varies with every living creature in the universe, then is it possible that subjectivity can give and prevent varying degrees of accuracy regarding what is real? If perceptual sense and logic are "enough" to survive happily through life, then what how is it that the language we use to describe anything is never enough? And as a result our understanding of the universe can never be enough? I would give all of my money in my account at this very moment to any genius who answers that.

No one can do anything wrong because no one chose to exist and become the person they became. The only wrong you can do is to think that you can do something wrong.

Yes. We cannot even begin to choose anything until we can re-construct our conceptions and preconceptions, which include beliefs, and try to accept our mistakes and live our lives. In order to do that we must let go of the negative conceptions of the self.

    Before now, and on further thought, I may only be speaking in semantics when I discuss a difference between conception and perception, so I will post their definitions here;

I always tell to people to not state something they don´t know as a fact, becaus it may confuse many... There is always the options of writting: "in my opinion..." or "in my perspective...", or something like that.

You are not even considering rebirth in your equation.

Im my opinion, rebirth is just natural, and karma is divine justice. But it really doesn´t matter for you what I think, the important thing is to write down that it is just my opinion.

Well, it's my opinion that the fact is that Karma doesn't exist. Happy?

there's no need to write those three words in every post, because almost everything is an opinion.

the things i say are not my opinions, they are facts. for example, rebirth is a fact. those who don't believe in rebirth are wrong.
