Sam: "I'm surprised they haven't put up their own satellite."

I doubt it would improve the imagery much: Either they would submit to U.S. censorship, or suffer unfortunate "technical difficulties".

the instructions say to open this file from its current location.
that doesn't seem to work with my machine so i saved it to the setup files for google earth and opened it from there.

    cute virgil.

google earth software was purchased from another company that was planning on selling it to the masses. google snatched it up and gave it away. pretty nice of them i would say.

It is fun to look up all the old 'secret' ICBM silos in the US and ex-USSR. Some are blurred out and many hundreds of others are in plain, crystal-clear view.

Don't forget to check off those "Layers" section to get even more stuff added to your views. I didn't check off 3D buildings photorealistic setting until recently and that gives an even better view of everything. I just don't like it because it isn't "real time" but photos from over a year or more ago.

When I need to go somewhere and I don't know exactly where it is I use google maps before I leave. I think that it is a good alternative to taking a map with me or a navigation computer in the automobile and it helps me train my memory.

I checked out all the houses in England I have lived in (8). I tried to do this with only the image and no place names or anything; kept me amused for a while.. And found the town and compound I used to live in in Saudi Arabia called Khamis Mushayt. I also found many landmarks we used to pass on the way to our fishing trips to the Red sea.
