If you have the "i" landmarks active they are easy to find in southwest england, not quite as far as Cornwall and southeast of glouchester - i don't know what the area is called. I was actually looking for the "Camel" rivers and didn't find them.

It's no big deal really, they are probably maintained by the farmers, whether or not "someone" else made them.

if you come across anything press shift+print screen, open paint and on the edit menu click paste, click save as (filename).jpg, then host it. or you can write down the lat/ long (lower left corner) and post those.

I am using it for nearly a year now.And I have to say it's cool.

I wonder what is the future of this technology.

 

I like to look at places I've been and look for familiar landmarks like the Mosque in Mecca, Manhattan, Miami beach, Madh Island, Bombay Pune roads, Goa, or even places I'd not been but would like to see, like the Wall of China or the Temple of the Mount in Israel. Its fun.

 

Does this 'other stuff' resemble a bunch of stoned hippies in any fashion?

Think about what the capabilities are that the military have with it. They could watch you at your house and where you travel.

 

On google earth, pictures from my neighborhood are more than 3 years old. Is this typical?

 

Yes. My area is still shown with 4-year-old imagery. As I'm sure you have noticed, resolution varies considerably too.

The Google Earth Community board shares all sorts of interesting and categorized things to spy.

 

Google earth isn't a live map, it's a composite of hundreds of thousands of images. Some satellite but the most are from aircraft. The images aren't necessarily recent either.

For instance my local area had some roads that were completed circa 1998, but it also contained views of a Helicopter firm that's no longer in the area and a long brown tract where a gas line was put that stretches for about 50 miles. (They put that in in 1992)

What would of been interesting is if Google Earth had somehow linked with Archive.org's wayback machine and started sculpturing the world as and when we saw it back in the day.
