Interesting find - last I had read, DNA evidence suggested that no interbreeding had taken place, and that the two hominids were indeed different species.

One lousy skull is hardly enough "evidence" to prove any-fuckin'-thing.

But, be that as it may, I will say that ...if it would have held still long enough, then a human or sub-human would have fucked it. There are some humans who'd fuck a rattlesnake if someone would hold it's head!

Pass around the skull at the trailerpark, someone will skullfuck it. HAHA I've always wanted to use skullfuck in a real sentence.

Baron that would be in the Beastility thread.

Neandethals were around for a long time, until we came along. Then, suddenly, they were gone. What do you think happened?

The typical pattern is kill all the men and rape all the women. Look at the recent "ethnic cleansing" in Europe. They killed all the men, and set up rape camps for the ladies.

Even in the US, many "white" Americans have some Indian blood in them. When we wipe someone out, we keep some of the more attractive females.

I'm sure we followed the regular pattern with the Neaderthals as we were wiping them out. Indeed, they may have served as a template for future genocide.

It's possible that there was interbreeding, but that the offspring were sterile or, if not, that in the interbred lines simply died out. Either way, that would mean that there is was no genetic contribution by neanderthals to modern human genome.

That could reconcile both this one anomalous skull (assuming it actually was the skull of such a hybrid) and the more recent genetic testing suggesting no genetic contribution from neanderthals.

Maybe, but this misses the point - if Neanderthals were a seperate species, they would not have been able to interbreed with us, regardless of how that was achieved.

    Pandaemoni:
I think it goes back to that assumption, which seems a hell of a thing to rest on one skull.

There remain quite a few red men, of some tribes.

The mixed-blood whites are mostly descendents of quite voluntary matings - the pioneering white men often took red wives, in formal marriage, and such arrangements are more reproductively successful than rapings, on average.

And the whites didn't keep the females - attractive or not - of most of the tribes that were wiped out. They kllled them all - men, women, and children.

Which may explain any random mixed-breed skulls lying around, as well as the lack of surviving genetic evidence of interbreeding, the apparent long times of mutual survival and side-by-side dwelling of neanderthals and sapiens, and the sudden disappearance of the neanderthals in fairly recent times.

I do not believe this study.

Furthermore, the article goes on to state the following:

It is right there in the rest of the article.

Neanderthals were a different species from sapiens, right? Then how could they interbreed?

if neanderthals were as closely resembling early humans as much as we currently believe, then it makes sense that when the two met, some interbreeding would have taken place. whether it resulted in sterile offspring, or even if conception occured i dont have a clue however.

That's open to debate. For a while, we were classified as homo sapiens sapiens and neanderthals were homo sapiens neanderthalensis. Different varieties of the same species. No one is really sure.

Dogs and wolves for example can interbreed.
The current population has no Neanderthal DNA in it because:
    1) there was interbreeding, but the products of that interbreeding weren't able to procreate;
    2) there was interbreeding, the interbreeds were able to procreate, but all their descendants have died and haven't left a genetic legacy;
    3) interbreeding wasn't possible.

I bet my money on the first possibility.

    4) We don't know nearly enough about DNA yet, and they did actually interbreed. How did we prove that there is no Neanderthal DNA in the current or past human race?
    5) They interbred, but not a lot, because they simply didn't find each other attractive. Do you want to have sex with someone who looks like a gorilla? Some might.

Good point, but that's the same as my 2.

I certainly wouldn't, but from our thread "Bestiality" it seems that there are many who would. That zoophile forum is so twisted in so many wrong ways...

I read on the 4th a long time ago, don't remember anymore. I bet google can be of help.

I read a story (called Orion or something like that) in which homo sapiens were created by God for the sole purpose of killing off the Neanderthals. The Neanderthals were too well adapted. There were neither progressing nor evolving and God wasn't happy with that situation. I think the key difference between us and them was that they were telepathic, which made them poor fighters as they could literally "feel your pain". The same went for animals and such which prevented them from ravaging the planet as we have done in the name of progress. They were nice little eco-friendly people living a "substainable" lifestye. In other words, they were a dead end.

So god created us. It was something of a rush job as we had only the one purpose. His intention was to destroy us afterwards and then create a perfect "man". But whatever he threw at us, we just kept surviving. With a little help from the time traveling "Orion" character.

    one raven:
DNA samples from a Neanderthal skull were compared to DNA samples from the locals near the dig site - they had wildly different markers.
The methodology seems a bit iffy, though.

It's not a study. It's a skull. Thus my remark, "which seems a hell of a thing to rest on one skull."

Ok the skull is 33000 years old...and...

So in 2000 years you would expect this specimen to for sure have some homo sapien DNA? I think that's reaching. They probably didn't even get to 1st base yet.

Well, if they didn't even get to first base, there obviously wasn't any interbreeding.
