I never said I expect a huge pay for the job... I'm bitching that customers are ignorant about what a driver has to do. Some don't tip on purpose. And today, this lady made me wait 20 f*cking minutes outside her apartment. My reward after 50 minutes of total delivery time (driving time + waiting): $1.

Thanks lady for the waste of time...

No, but why does it appear that you are looking down upon me? Because I deliver pizza? It's an honest living... and so long as there is a demand for pizza, it's a "real job."

No, it's nowhere near the job that I want... but this is all I can get while I study.

hey I just thought of this...that sort of job, the tip job would be against the law since the law states that minimal wage should be like 5$ something...and practically the wage of the person on such tip job has an opportunity to go lower than 5$/hour. Which makes it illegal...does it not?

Sometimes it's tough to tip 'em , we order that shit so rarely that I forget until i'm sitting there waiting for the change...then remember "oh ya keep the change." well sometimes the change is like a buck something. WTF am I gonna do? Root around my house for another buck(cause no fuckin way is ringing my doorbell and saying "hi" is worth more than 10%)? Anyways last time the guy looked kinda pissed and I damn near said "actually gimme my fucking change!"

Nope and most of the time we get some guy that don't speak english. I'm gonna try and grunt and motion do you have change for a five? fuck it. Sure reminds me why me and shorty don't order delivery much.

You want good tips? Work in a restaurant(a good one) or a bar.

I only tip if the guy looks somewhat hygenic.

if hes some long haired greaseball with pus filled blobs all over his face, he gets no tip from me. I don't want someone like that handling my food, even if it is in a box.

It's very likely that the driver helped make your pizza. It's even more likely that the driver took your phone call, too. Hell, he probably folded your box. Then he put wear and tear on his vehicle to get it to your house.

The driver you mentioned that got pissed off for getting the left-over change is pissed because on that trip, he made less than minimum wage. It take's the pizza company's "compensation" plus the loose change + more just to cover his hidden expenses (new tires in a few months, for a example).

When Fallujah freezes over, perhaps America will implement a living wage.

Technically, if your tips plus your hourly salary do not equal minimum wage, the company is supposed to make up the difference...at least here in Texas. It also applies to people who make a fixed salary. Your weekly salary divided by the number of hours you work has to at least equal minimum wage.

my advice is for you to quit. why should you continue working for scraps while the owner rakes in 10x that much from your work? even better, you should join a union and bring your situation to them.

I always tip 20% for those who get their pay mostly in tips. Manual labour is severely underrated.

No offense but didnt you kinda knew this before you got the job ? The idea of tips are that its voluntary. You should be happy when every once in a while someone tips you. But you expect people to tip you and then go moaning about it when they dont, you really got this whole tip thing backwards if you ask me.
Also, maybe some people dont have a lot of money to spend. You cant expect them to tip.

Tips aren't always voluntary, if you take a large group to restaurant, many places will automatically add a gratuity to the bill.

Tips aren't just "a little something extra" for some positions...they are the main source of income for these jobs. When I delivered pizza, my weekly paycheck was less than $100...$3.00 an hour plus tips, 85% of my income was from tips.
I can understand not tipping if you receive bad service...if it takes more than an hour to get your pizza, and it arrives cold....but if your expecting someone to get in their car and drive your food over to you, so you don't have to, you should pay them for their trouble. If you are too poor to afford a tip, you shouldn't order delivery...go and pick it up yourself.

In a tiny town of 4000 in MI. We have a chain pizza place and a pizzeria. We pay the extra $4 delivery to get it from the pizzeria.

If it costs $4 in gas to drive 10 blocks......he needs a new car.

Well I knew that pizza guys have the potential for a lot of money. Plenty of them make $15 an hour. Usually I make about $11-12 an hour, but as I said, lately I have been doing very badly. I get paid minimum wage ($5.85 per hour) plus "compensation" ($1.40 per delivery) plus tips. The "compensation" just doesn't do it with rising gas prices. When people don't tip me, my wage on that trip goes below minimum wage because some of the gas comes out of my pocket... then all of the repairs I got to do come out of my pocket. If someone were to tip me at the very least $2-3 (especially for a very long trip), then I can actually pay for my repairs and still go home with money.

I'm waiting for my friend to tell me how his new job is working out as a waiter at one of Ted Turner's restaurants. If he makes more than I do working here, I'm switching jobs. I heard the money is really good because since Ted owns the place and because he lives in the building, too. So a bunch of rich people come buy to eat.

Well, do yourself a favor and call up the pizza place. Ask them if the driver even sees this money, at all. Almost always, the "delivery charge" goes to the store and not the driver. It is pretty much the compensation that the store gives itself for losing a helping a hand in the store. Because like I said, drivers do a lot of things in the store like make pizzas and answer phone calls.

A $4 delivery charge is pretty high...I imagine this company implemented that policy because some people in your town didn't realize they were supposed to tip the driver.

    I hope you are joking...

It's customary for service jobs where quality matters, but you don't have to. If enough people stop tipping, the prices will rise on service jobs and the quality of service will drop.

Trust me, I remember people that tip me. They always get great service from me. I'm not all that motivated to help people that I know will not tip me at all.
