if we were somehow able to organize an event where everybody on earth shouted as loud as they could, at the exact same time, what would happen?. peace.
Nothing, really. I could shout as loud as I can, and I'd bet my neighbors wouldn't even hear it - if they did, it wouldn't be terribly loud at all. Get 10,000 people screaming in a stadium, and what happens? You can't even hear it a few blocks away.
Not much. It would be really noisy in some locations and still totally quiet in most areas of the world.
The sound of 20,000 people screaming at the top of their lungs at a rock concert in a stadium isn't nearly as loud as the music. High-frequency sound, including the range of the human voice, attenuates over a very short distance. If they put their energy into beating on really really big drums that vibrate down at the bottom of our range of hearing, say 15-20hz, the sound would carry much farther than voices.
True. And still, nothing would happen - except everyone would hear drums. What answer were you expecting or hoping for, chi? That the earth's mantle would crack or something?:bugeye:

It wouldn't even notice. All the voices combined would probably produce less sound than a single cat-5 hurricane does.

What if everyone farted at once? Could we finally get rid of that annoying Ozone Layer? I could really use a decent tan.
If one person yelled for a little over 8 and a half years, you'd produce enough energy to heat one cup of coffee.... So I gather even if 6.599 billion people all shouted, the most we'd do is cause a massive shortage in the lozenge/cough drop market.
