At first, depressed, but then if they are strong enough, they will fight and pursue real happiness.

    I'm stupid, so I care.

Well, I'm an American citizen, and spent my first 18 years of life in Germany, so perhaps I could shead some light on this pseudo-intelectual BS.

Slavery not only implies forced labor, but an absolute requirement to perform such labor and to conduct one's economic activities so that funds are retained within a country's economy. So, the fact that I could work in a German pizzaria for a few years, pay german tax dollars, and be very dependent on the german economy AS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN without getting shot in the head by a CIA agent goes to disprove your concept. However, if I were a russian during the Soviet years and I worked in west germany on my own will, I'd likely have some problems to face if I returned home to Russia. I am free of that as an American.

But hey, think what you want, as an American, I'm willing to uphold your right to think that we are slaves

If they were strong enough, they wouldn't be "slaves" in the first fuckin' place!!

And has that "caring" done anything for anyone? If so, for how many?

Caring is something that most people make claims about, but from the state of the things in the world, even in your immediate vicinity, all that caring has done little for anyone. So ....why claim to care?

Why would they do that? You could send money to the US. I fail to see how that would be dentrimental to your masters.

That has absolutely nothing to do with what I'm saying.

Slaves don't respond well with whipping. They end up resisting. They respond greatly when properly fed, though...

HAHA!! You are so incredibly naive!!!
You can control ANYONE if you are clever enough (and if they are NOT)!

    Yes. I don't count, though.

I think we have discussed this before and I told you.

Of course, the problem here is that you don't care.

Consumers also have no concern for the envirornment. Sadly. Oh, and I'm not positive, but I think it should be any; at least it sounds a lot better when I say it that way.
    Metaphoric slavery my dude.

In a sense I agree with you, TS. There is always a system, everything is conditional. Law of Conservation of Energy applies to everything (except perhaps in some extravagant theory of quantum dynamics). If one wants to live, one must eat. If I want an Audi, I must pay for it. It's all the same thing, just different complexities. So, yes we are slaves to the universe, in a broad sense of the term. Whether there are some puppetmasters in gov't or industry makes little difference; they are equally trapped within their own system (the main diffence is that they have more STUFF. So. Same rodents, bigger nest.)

Tut-tut, Baron. TS is proposing a point of view, as this forum is about. Life is a point of view and there wide spectrum of lives here discussing their worldviews. Though we may not agree with his interpretation here, attacking is no way to encourage discourse.

Something that has been bothering me in the last month or so, since I've been back active here, is that there is a lot more pettiness in the discussions. Back when I first joined (2004) most peopled seemed more cordial in their discussions. There was a better interplay of ideals and desire to 'kick around" concepts mundane and sublime. Now it seems that many here run short of creativity or understanding and so resort to rudeness. What happened to the openmindedness and the desire to learn?

If the waters are too deep here then people should go to MySpace. If this site has become that shallow then it's a sad thing.

Dude, this conversation is stupid, the only way an American can defend themself in this conversation is to say "well, I was able to defect to Canada, so I am not a slave, nor was I one because they allowed me to defect!"

Perhaps we should look at western society as a whole? Let's see if we can get you in on this good ol' fashioned slavery.

By the way, if it's slavery, it's good. Slaves don't get to windsurf every weekend last time I checked

I never said Canada has no slavery, have I?

The difference is that because america has so many ignorant people, the government is more able to make more people slaves of the system.

In Canada, a lot of people are very aware of the real intentions of the government, so they are much less of slaves then their american counterparts. The more awareness you have, the less you are going to be a slave of the system and the more you will fight for your freedom.

For instance, a lot of canadians talk about our society as plutocratic. Americans, on the other hand, refuse to acknowledge that their society is plutocratic and prefer to believe that they live in this great utopian society that is based on democracy. (Of course, they ignore the fact that most of the time they have a "choice" between two lame candidates.)

That is what I said originally, there is always a system (no escaping that) but we can choose which we want to be a part of. It is slavery in a broad sense. Though, TS, in the more traditional sense, we aren't due to the choices that you just agreed we do have.

So you CAN really choose more then two candidates and make a difference?

... or go to Canada, or Europe, or ...

One can not take out a loan for an expensive car/house/boat/etc. One doesn't have to have the the fastest processor w/ the hottest video card to spend time playing the newest games ... Or the newest PDA camera phone ... or the $20 a day beer/wine/latte habit ... make a sandwich for work rather then McD's ...

Everyday, people make discisions to spend $ they don't need to, thereby increasing their debt and servitude AND THEY KNOW IT!

I've known some that don't work or pay taxes, have no debt and hardly own anything; they're called beggars/hobo's (a whole other system). There are some that have headed to wilds and lived off the land in a leanto (yet another system). If we aren't amongst them it's because that life doesn't really appeal to us and so we have chosen to to remain in this system.

Um, that's quite an exaggeration there, young feller (gal?). I wouldn't argue if you'd said that probably a majority of Americans simply don't give it much thought. But of the ones who do, quite a large number of us more or less agree with you. Many Americans have a single-issue focus in their politics: racism, the environment, religion, drugs, abortion, animal rights, censorship, immigration, health care, terrorism, whatever. So they support organizations that work those issues such as PETA and AARP, rather than political parties.
Actually that is the reason voter turnout is so low: many people do understand that it doesn't make much difference who wins. Even when the occasional candidate is elected who distinguishes himself from the pack, like Jimmy Carter, the "system" just rolls right over him.

We libertarians and Libertarians try to get the message across that government has just gotten too damn big, so no matter who wins, it will continue to be horribly meddlesome, horribly expensive, and horribly ineffective. When the government has effectively nationalized entire sectors like energy, charity, education, transportation and health care, it doesn't matter who's in charge and what his philosophy is: those sectors are guaranteed to sputter and fail.

I'll give you guys, TS & FR, that. Our political parties aren't that much different from each other. They're there solely to perpetuate that system. I've no doubt that they say all those rotten things about each other on Larry King and then go to the nearby bar and have a good laugh together.

explosive neck straps are the way forward in slave nation science. make it compulsary to wear new ID straps that cant come off. but they are actualy explosive devices, and if somebody does not obey you can blow them up. and any strap that is forced off will blow up also with a trigger.

or make the military kill every single adult who opposes your regime, and raise every single child to be brainwashed into your ways of thinking.

the g,w bush tactic does not work because you get people who dont buy it. and thats a big mistake because you will divide your nation, wich possibly will lead to a civil war.

    peace.

    peace.
