I've watched a few episodes of 'Family Guy', and am just curious to know who actually finds this shit funny? To me, it seems like an 'equivalent' to 'The Simpsons', in the sense that 'Big Brother' is an equivalent to 'Survivor'.

I found myself laughing through two jokes in a row the other day, which was a first.

I enjoy Family Guy. Not always, but it is sometimes very funny.

Notice how most of the jokes have nothing to do with the actual story. Instead they occur during flashbacks or "what-if situations".

I like it. Although I do find myself laughing more at the Stewie episodes.

Especially the episode where he found himself wanting to be spanked... "come on woman.. spank me.. stomp on my cubes"..

I agree with pjdude... South park has better satire, requiring a little digging under the cover of offensiveness. Also, more and more lately Family Guy has been using a comedy technique in which an unfunny or meaningless situation is made funny by letting the scene run long.
It's funny sometimes, but it seems like it could lead to scenes that are "funny" just because of the irony in having unfunny scenes in a comedy program.

I could just imagine it, Family Guy airing a show that has no jokes, and having that be the joke.

Yes! That's the technique that they use, and I don't appreciate it. A lame joke doesn't become funny the more you tell it. Quite the contrary, it becomes damn annoying.

As for Southpark... I hate it. I find 'Drawn Together' to be far more decent satire.

I personally find Family Guy hilarious. You have to have a sharp sense of humor to find it funny.
Oh, there's a reason that Fox brought it back...quite a few people called into Fox and demanded it be brought back. There's also a reason that it's still quite popular even after it was brought back.
I'm sorry for you all that you don't find it funny. It's your loss. If you guys don't like humor, go watch Law and Order or something.

That's part of the technique. The show 'Scrubs' uses that technique as well.

Then don't watch it. You don't see me on here making threads bitching about shows I don't like, do you?

    American Dad is awesome.

I agree. I used to hate Family Guy for the same reasons I used to hate Chris Farley. Until I saw the awesome humor in it that's not immediately apparent to everyone. Sometimes you just have to wait until you change a bit.

Although, I really don't like American Dad. I really see that as a pointless copy of Family Guy. Why have it? (I'll probably be saying I love it a year later)

When Family Guy was originally cancelled, the creators made American Dad pretty much as Family Guy take 2. They decided to run with it even though Family Guy had been brought back.

Although I think many of the criticisms levelled at Family Guy are valid (re: South Park's Cartoon Wars episodes), I still find that I enjoy the show. It's humor is very agressive, and the dialogue can be really quite clever at times.

Family Guys is pretty good fun...it's a relaxing laugh.

South Park and Drawn Together are more pointed satire, with messages yes, but sometimes it's good to have a belly laugh without having to think about the joke.

Think the Family Guy Chicken Fight story arc...(Youtube it)

It's been a few weeks since I've watched A.D. but IIRC, there isn't as much tangient references as F.G., but yeah the characters almost mirror the F.G. characters.
And Futurama is a copy of the Simpsons, but I liked it pretty well too. Too bad it didnt' last.

Not necessarily. It entirely depends on the viewer's sense of humor. If you don't find it funny, you simply don't. Some people require Frasier-esque comedy to laugh, some only require fart jokes, others can be amused by a spectrum of humor. (PS the Chicken Fight is best over the span of all four encounters)

I personally can enjoy a lot, from the lowly Chicken Fight all the way to Frasier's rapier Oxford bred wit.

    :fart:

 to having a sense of humor that covers a broad spectrum. I love the dialogue of Frasier; I also love sex and fart jokes; I also love the dialogue of Dr. Cox on the show 'Scrubs'. His golden, razor sharp wit has me constant stitches (get it? Doctor...stitches. nevermind

    I also love Monty Python.

its funny but is flawed. the writters rely to heavily on random out of plot jokes, anybody can put together a set of random jokes wich have nothing to do with a plot line.

it is a funny show it does make me laugh alot. but it doesent take much brains or commic skill to put together an episode of family guy,

get a bunch of random jokes. follow a slight already played out plot and story, add some half intelligent vocabulary. add some more random jokes that dont tie in with the plot and you have an episode.

repeat 20 times and you have a series.

but again it does make me laugh and is some harmless fun. but personaly i could do better,

example. "hey lois, remember the time i got drunk in mexico and brian had to fight darth vadar in hand to hand combat to defend my honor?" (jumps to a scene of brian having a light saber fight with darth vadar) repeat 15 times each episode as a space filler.

    peace.

    I'm a guy, and I don't get it either.

To be honest, I find the 'Duck season, rabbit season!' joke from Bugs Bunny more amusing than the Peter vs. Chicken fight, and that's saying something!

    mikenostic:
I don't enjoy Family Guy, hence I don't like humour? Huh?

Yeah, but Scrubs is funny. Family Guy is just lame.
