I just saw that movie I Robot yet again over the weekend. It led me to wonder, would a machine capable of thinking billions of billions of times a second really conclude humans were a threat to themselves? What kind of logic is that in the face of possible extermination from meteorites, etc? I use to think this would be the outcome, now however I am not so certain. I think a machine like that would end up concluding humans are doomed to extinction anyway, so while they are alive study them and learn as best it can. I don't believe it would try taking over our day-to-day lives or anything so mundane, not anymore.... so what about you guys?

A machine can have faulty logic where all the information is not available. For example, the machine can conclude that if paper is white and milk is white and people can drink milk, so logically people can drink paper too.

This is classic logic. When I was writing an expert program, I had to write a thousand rules for a special case so that the computer does not go bonkers and keep repeating Error, Error. A lot of logic went to Error trapping, understanding the Error and a graceful exit if processing could not be completed.

Imagine a real life intelligent robot making complex decisions like a human such as Hitler or our own George Bushy....

    Is George Bush a robot?

We are all robots in a way, however I believe were his actions that of a robot being he'd be more precise and logical.

If they were truly logical ... of course. Aren't we?

In fact, I get a little bit of a thrill from the idea that we may be the most dangerous and violent life form in the universe. The chances of us devastating other planets/races is probably far greater then them coming to get us. Look at our entire history; we've been practicing for millenia.

And do not forget, Bushy went to war based on erroneous information similar to the master Robot in the "I Robot"

I confess I have serious doubts about AI but I am inclined to agree with you.

A computer consciousness I would I think be nearly global because communication would be so fast. So it would be everywhere watching and knowing almost everything we do. I would expect it to watch us doing whatever it wanted and not even let us know it existed.
