Ah, you mean it is ok for mods to insult other people although it is clearly specified in the new policy that they shouldn't, and we all know this and I shouldn't complain about it, because it is ridiculous to expect mods to set a good example.

    See rule:

5.1. act in accordance with this policy

Definitely interesting. I have on my mind something like monthly "Best poster award".

We could set up, 'closed debate' between two or more nominees for "that award. This means that only nominees could take part in discussion and other members could only read and by doing that thay judge nominees.

The way they present arguments, discus, etc. will be crucial for the win.

After the debate, names of all participants will be listed in public poll for vote.

Closed debate could be designed as a:
    a) Discussion of all nominees in one thread
    b) Debate separated in several threads, between only two nominees in each thread (noble tournaments), i.e. Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals.

    Flaws:

It's hard to choose subject of discusion for members who have different interests, i.e. mathematician and biologist, member interested in politics and member who made great posts in art or linguistics.

Vote sometimes won't be based on quality of the debate. Some members will choose nominee they personally like more than other nominees, no matter if nominee they chose, was bad in discussion.

Moderation - It's hard to choose a judge for the discussion. Actually not choose, moderation of the 'Closed debate' will be optional and voluntary, but I doubt that moderators will be willing to lose their nerves in additional activity.
I have no time for this either.

So, moderation could only be based on:
    a) Deleting the off topic
    b) Disqualification from the debate, if one of the nominees fails to acomplish the rules that has been set for 'Closed debate'
    c) Final judgement depends on the votes of members in public poll

I think that there is something wrong here. This "moderator" demands an apology. I don't see this option on the list.

These are rules for this thread.

What will happen if off topic occurs.

A sort of Alpha rules experiment.

Asking whether a policy is policy or not is off topic? Weird. Well, please continue with your monologue then.

I think he meant the rules you quoted are for this thread as an Alpha experiment (to keep the thread on topic)

How come then the personal insults haven't been deleted yet and I had to report them?

Signifies a bit of the real problem here. There is no point having a policy or discussing it if you don't enforce it or have any intention of enforcing it.

Actually, these rules are more for this:

But, you cannot see the deleted posts.

Anyway, this thread is opened for open discussion about not only policy, but also about what is good on SciForums and what isn't.
This thread is opened for suggestion, ideas, critics,... But constructive and with arguments.

I've set this rules, because I want this thread stays on the track. Maybe they sound too harsh, but that's the only way to keep the trolls out.

I said in my intro post (that you've quoted) that discussion here won't be funny and whoever doesn't want to post here seriously, it's better to stay away.

    That's all.

I see that you need more than a PhD to post in this thread, because I still don't understand you.

My comment is not off topic and yet it is, although it isn't, but it is.

That's because there are rules for this forum.

Doesn't make sense at all. See your own rules. That's against the rules.

You just want mods to become pussies, so that you can do whatever you wish.
Nowhere in the policy it states that all members shall be but in comfy bubbles, and mods shall be fed to lions.

And do you seriously expect me to buy that load of bollox you sell as an argument? Insulted my ass.
You're being so politically correct that you should have stayed in the US. They would have made you a president.
    -------------

Anyway, to other members than spurious here, I'll do the policy revision after this Friday, when I have my last exam before the summer. Till then I'm pretty much totally overwhelmed by other stuff.

I hope you are having fun any way, and a little delay won't spoil anything.
    Cheers!

well well, continuing to post crap in a an alpha thread. Reported. If I was the administrator I would be very ashamed of my moderators who can't even show the slightest hint of discipline.

    1. I have not "demanded" anything.
    2. You were not being in any way moderated. I posted a response to your childish insult, and that is all.

Presumably everyone here knows that America is a representative democracy and it only takes 51% of us to define politics. The other 49% of us do not feel insulted when someone points out the lunacy of the 51%.

Majoritarianism has its drawbacks, especially in an era of compulsive ignorance. No offense was taken by this American.
