    India's National Shame?

(From The Hindu newspaper, 7 June)
    (Bolded type by Baron Max)

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday described as a `national shame' the violence in Rajasthan to press the demand for inclusion of Gujjars as a Scheduled Tribe in Rajasthan and the subsequent incidents in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.

Taking suo motu cognisance of large-scale destruction of property, a vacation Bench consisting of Justices Arijit Pasayat and D.K. Jain directed the Directors-General of Police of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana and the Delhi Police Commissioner to file within 10 days affidavits on what action was taken or was proposed to be taken against the offenders.

Listing the case as "destruction of public and private properties," the Bench said, "the affidavits shall also indicate if no action has been taken as yet, the cause therefore.

The judges told senior counsel Rajeev Dhavan, who was appointed amicus curiae, "It is a serious matter. We are taking suo motu cognisance of the destruction of properties. It has caused a lot of trauma to the people."

The Bench said, "It is a national shame that hordes of people are indulging in destruction of property." It recalled the judgment upholding a Kerala High Court order on bandhs and said damages should be recovered from those people who destroyed property.

Mr. Dhavan said those who called for a bandh owed a vicarious responsibility. "Even if there may be a right to protest in some cases, that does not give licence to anybody to destroy properties and/or indulge in acts vandalism."

Referring to Monday's bandh in Delhi, the Bench said life in the entire city was paralysed. "Nobody was able to reach his or her office on time. Even doctors were not able to attend to their patients." Lawyers present narrated how the agitators dragged passengers out of buses and trains.

Thereafter, the Bench in its order said: "It has come to our notice that in the last one week there has been large-scale destruction of public and private properties and no preventive action appears to have been taken and unfortunately it does not prima facie appear that any action has been taken against the offenders who were responsible for destruction of properties.

Apparently it's a helluva lot more than simple vandalism. It seems as if it's an Indian National Pastime!

Maybe y'all need a DisneyWorld to keep the people occupied .....and out of trouble.

They're people of India ...who the Indian government should care for and protect.

But aren't they Kshatriyas and Brahmans, and even Muslims?

How can they be a backward class?

Huh??? Why are you interjecting class into this?

What do you think a Scheduled Tribe is, Baron?

Are you trying to justify the violence in India?

    "Vandalism is a terrible thing".
Five words, the result of a total lack of interest offset by a compulsion to prove otherwise... and a mind devoid of anything resembling balance or insight. How adroitly it has managed to condense the entire incident into a mundane case of... vandalism. Watch what it does next.

    "Troll thread gone wrong".
Ah yes. And now, for this poster and with that shining example of insight and self-analysis, the incident in India has ceased to exist. How simple life must be, with a mind like this one. How utterly uncomplicated.

Troll thread gone wrong? Quite the opposite.
For some, these two rather closely resemble two fat trout netted in a river, now opening and closing the gills as they try desperately to convince themselves they still swim in it.
    But only for some.

*edit - did you notice the difference between this report and reports of it in newspapers from other nations?

Have you been taking lessons from Mr G.?

You could address the topic instead of the posters, for a change.

Or is mental masturbation more interesting than discussion?

PS heliocentric and I are not the same person.

Why address the topic, Sam? I already knew about it. I'd read about it days ago. I mentioned it the other day - you, of course, ignored it then too. As always, when you think you can get away with it.
It didn't seem like anyone was interested in "the topic" Sam - need I explain that that was the bloody point, or did that fly straight over your stupid head too? Whatever make you think addressing "the topic" has any point whatsoever when people like you simply skim over anything they don't like, and then eventually if it all gets too much for you just post some link about America and watch "the topic" get changed anyway.

Don't tell others to address the topic, you small minded little hypocrite, when you cannot and never have done anything other than weasel away when anything contrary to your own agenda appears - and if you can't, you little moderator friends are certainly on your side. Aren't they? They'll look after you.

As I said, it is quite interesting to read accounts in news services other than an Indian one. Now theres a point of discussion, given that America is constantly accused by people like you of bias and information twisting, and here's another country doing it as well. Yours, in fact. But you'll refuse to believe it, see it, or comment on it. You probably haven't even noticed it.

You think I come here for intelligent discussion, Sam? With the likes of you? Oh no. I come here to pick fights with stupid people and leave ascerbic comments here and there. Intelligent discussion is something I find elsewhere, with people capable of thought. This site is for throwing rocks when I'm in a bad mood, and watching the reaction.

Now run along and play. You're only feeding me when you reply.

    Please substantiate this claim.
You've read all the news reports in the Hindu?

You only show your ignorance by your pointless blathering.

Now why would I bother to do that?
Some have seen it, some can't... and some won't.
Quoting specific examples would achieve little more than confirming what some already know, or give you one more thing to dismiss or ignore.
You don't come here to learn anything, Sam, any more than I do.

Prior to this? I did. Purely out of an interest in comparison. It's a habit.
Which is more than you did before this particular thread, and initially you did little more than brush it off. Or perhaps you did read about it, but chose not to comment or address it here.
Which is, in some ways, even worse.

But do you know which one I particularly liked, of those you've posted?
    This one.
    http://www.hinduonnet.com/thehindu/holnus/001200706042066.htm

Read it carefully, and see if anything sounds... disturbingly familiar. How perfectly delicious that one is.

Well, that pointless blathering did provoke something a little more substantial than "huh?".
The labeling of one as ignorant has a tendency to be entirely subjective. When that labeling is the result of sympathy for a particular viewpoint (or lack of it), then it becomes ignorance in itself.

    Oh, absolutely.

Now let's examine that. What is a troll?
Basically, someone who posts specifically to attack or find fault rather than in any serious attempt to discuss.
    My, my.

It brings to mind something you see posted in quite a few places.
"If she is interested, it is flirting. If she is not, it is sexual harassment".
You see, the perception of one as a troll comes down to little more than whether or not your viewpoint happens to coincide with the troll, or with the target.

    ...
And lastly, as to learning from Mr G - no. I'm firmly of the opinion that he's far better at this than I am. I suspect he'd be a very likeable fellow, were I ever to meet him. Far more of a sense of humour than I have, I'm afraid. Same with the Baron. I have the impression that having a few beers on the porch on a warm evening with either one would be quite enjoyable.
I, however, have yet to overcome these feelings of utter loathing for most of you. I regard it as a personal failing. You have no idea of how I tear myself to pieces over it at night. In fact, medical opinion would have it that I would live far longer if I were to develop the ability to laugh at you more often than I do.

Now tell me something. How do you communicate with them... is it by PM, or email?

One can't have a conversation with a topic. One has converse with the conversationalists, no?

Which is dumber, a dumb topic or the poster who posts a dumb topic?

Go ahead. Tell the topic it's a dumb topic. See where it gets you or it.

And don't be too disturbed by my obvious bias. Its merely a recognition of the bait that is being dangled by certain members and perhaps a desire to be mischievous and keep them wanting.
