I've seen it go MUCH faster though. I've gotten ~10,000k down before.

By the way this speedtest is sponsored by the Speakeasy website, thus it is not a surprize they had similar results. With the Speakeasy I chose the NYC location, with Speedtest I had Frederick , MD....

I used this test back in December and I got 1660 kbps, although I haven't got any hardware updates since then. Must be the ISP....

Here is another site, it gave only 6.4 Mbps: (location is unknown)

    http://www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

    This site gave 2.6 Mbps:

    http://performance.toast.net/

So the spread is 300%...

The major difference between the desktop and the laptop is the clockspeed. They both have AMD Sempron processor 3000+ and 3400+ respectively. But the desktop's clock is 2Ghz and the laptop's is only 789 Mhz...

They are both low end cheap computers, so I assume using the same ISP with better computers the speed would be even higher. Although I still can't believe the 13.3 Mbps...

It can happen if the person is downloading in the background while doing a speed test.

There is also another explaination involving the contention ratio, where if a busy time of the day the exchange might be flooded with users all "Downloading" which in turn lowers the upper downloading speed based upon the ratio.

    So here is the question:

There is a 300% difference between my laptop's and desktop's speed but when I was watching the online movie, there was no noticable difference. Is that because that website transfers with the same (most likely slower than my laptop's) speed?

Interesting, 'cos I downgraded my broadband a few months ago, but it hasn't been downgraded, I just pay less!
