Argh....I put my car window down to get a ticket from something and when I went to put it up it went halfway up and stopped....so I put it back down and tried to get it back up but it's stuck....it makes a noise like it tries to move a little and then sticks after moving a few mm.

I tried slamming the door while raising the window, jamming something down the side of the window to try to move it, and it sounds like the switch works fine.

    The car is a 1993 Jaguar XJ6.

I put the car in my garage for just now, what can I do? I need it for work next week and I can't leave it out in public like that.

I ain't a member of any of that stuff, and there's no garages open on a Sunday. Would the AA/RAC help me if I wasn't a member and just charge a bit more?

    This sucks.

Thanks Nickelodeon, but that was like the first result I got when I searched with google. That's where I got the idea of slamming the door, etc.

if its anything like my car then:

take the cover off the inside of the door, run 2 wires from your battery(+ and -) unplug the wires going to the electric window motor, and touch them to your battery wires(swap them around for up and down). if your window still wont go up, then either you need a new window motor or the gear it pivots on it out of shape. if it works fine like this then either you have some bad wiring or maybe new cars have sensors to stop them going up too far and burning out the motor, in which case you will need to see an electrician to make it work.

Checked the fuses, fine. Motor seems to make a slight noise when I hit the switch, kind of like glass squeaking against rubber very briefly, then it stops. I can put it down again after that and same again. It only moves a few mm though.

have you tried pushing hard outwards and upwards on the window, while trying to roll it up?
an ex of mine had a similar problem with a manual window, and this is how it was fixed.

Yeah, sort of, problem is it doesn't come out of the top of the door, I have tried that with a fish slice, knife, pencil, and a screwdriver, but nothing.

to me, it seems like your window has slipped it's track...i worked in a body shop a few years back, and this was usually the case...other than that, perhaps a gear has been worn out?
