What do you people think about psipog (look up on google)

These people claim to possess many special powers like telekinesis, precognition, remote viewing, creating energy balls, passing through solid objects and more.

If this stuff were true it would be a great scientific discovery.

When I was kid, I thought that goldmine was hidden in my nose.

So, I dug it with patience for many years... I bled like a pig several times... But I never found this precious metal.

While there is the probability that such capabilities exist..

The psipog (and most metaphysics communities) community is a bunch of delusional unscientific/illogical people. I've spoken with many of them, and I've read many of their articles in the past. I laugh at many, and find myself bashing my head into the wall at the rest.

Not only do these people not even understand anything about psychology, but they blindly rush forward. The community is composed of many mentally-unstable types, and the owner of the community (peebrain) controls things in a fascist manner. And doesn't learn things very well, either (I should know, I met him).

All in all, this community is one of many responsible for the growing instability amongst those that practice the occult. They make flat-earthers, and conspiracy theorists, look intelligent. Even though a number of them are conspiracy theorists. Haha

    Jeremyhfht,

Have you ever been alone in a room and felt a presence?

Have you ever been alone in a room and catch a whiff of odor, perfume, fruit etc.? um, pipe smoke?

...*sigh* How educated are you in the fields of psychology/philosophy/etc? I'll explain more in-depth if you request.

I never denied the possibility. But most of that "presence" feeling can be attributed to the placebo effect. Which Psipog tends to dutifully ignore.

    Synesthesia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

Everyone has it. To a very minor (ergo, your brain never causes you to taste/smell things that aren't there. Or it only does once or twice in your life) or major (seizure-caused) degree. It's not uncommon for people to smell or taste things that aren't there.

I should know, I have a slight case of it. If by "slight" you mean "sometimes tastes words". For example, "taste" is kinda metallic...anyway, this is not a ghostly presence.

I do accept there is a possibility, but I refuse to discard logical explanations for what one would want to believe.

There's nothing left of Psipog but an archive. The forums are closed. Sean has moved on to other things.

During its active life, psipog was an interesting resource - even for a sceptic like me - for discussing these things with a large group of people with diverse opinions.

i guess there is such stuff Vladimir but such people with such powers have a huge amount of concentration which allows the above powers to work so without maximum concentration nothing will happen really.

I've spoken to many of them. almost NONE of them have much mental concentration.

Concentration wise, scientists would be superheroes then. Concentration is not the only factor.

Even if these powers don't work well and are not practical they would still be of theoretical interest to scientists like me (I am training to be a physicist).

On one hand it seems unlikely that all these Psipog members could be lying...

100% of all humans lie. Who would the psigog members be different?

Well, not all of them would be lying. There are some serious practitioners, but these people never boast such abilities as PHASING THROUGH THINGS.

Really, Psipog is composed of many psychologically ill people. The mentally sane ones I know tend to be far more "weak" then what the more crazy ones boast.

So yes, it's a safe bet to say 99.9% of them are lying.

If the other .1% were telling the truth they would have won nobel prizes. Clearly that's not the case.

Crunchy: You assume far too much.

Realistically, the most in-tune with reality people I know, tend to have minor abilities. Which they are skeptic about anyway.

These abilities depend on many things. Your emotions, mental clarity, and the surrounding atmosphere.

So tell me: can you keep mental clarity while the entire scientific world is looking at you in a magnifying glass? Eventually it's possible some of these people will try to pass tests (like that "I'll give you X dolors if you, say, lift this rock with your mind" thing), but as of now most of them I know would prefer to practice first. As opposed to being humiliated.

Your reasoning not only ignores circumstances, but it ignores the fact these people do have skepticism (many are fairly intelligent). Typical of someone who "knows" it doesn't exist. If I may make that assumption about you.

leave your assumptions at the door. Parapsychology or not, I highly doubt it's wise of you to "know" instead of "think". Skepticism. You should use it. Least you be no better than most of the psipoggers.

    Or I am more knowledgeable.

    Dare I ask for evidence?

Naturally. That way there is always an out.

As well as I can play the piano in front of an audience.

Practice is fine. There is simply nobody able to perform.

Being skeptical or delusional are not mutually exclusive. You are free to make any assumptions about me that you like as they are inconsequential.

All the thinking in the world doesn't make a fantasy true.

I simply value truth above the psychological satisfaction of indulging in attractive delusions whereas its the reverse for psipoggers. What they value is very natural... it's just not true.
