At the begining of the movie Leonidas has his general(or whatever he is) gather 300 men with sons to take their places. They meet with another army. The Other army leaves, some Spartans die, and that guy with one eye takes most of the remaining Spartans to go spread the story or whatever. Then the narrator(the guy w/one eye, coincidentially) says something to the effect of: "there Leonidas stood with only his 300 behind him." How can that be? Has anyone else seen this movie who can explain this part to me?

    Herein lies your fault.
That guy with the one eye is the only Spartan to leave the battle.
The rest were the other Greeks that had tagged along but weren't willing to fight to the end.

Of course, Leonidas' army wasn't quite 300 by this time due to casualties. But that's besides the point.

What's a coincidence about this? The narrator is the one Spartan who left the battle to tell the tale. His sole reason for leaving was to tell the tale. He had a talent for storytelling.

This could also be seen as the source of much of the larger than life aspects of the story. Enthusiastic story telling to get the Spartans' blood stirring.

Of course, Herodotus was a bit of a propagandist himself.

If you like, you could actually read the original from Herodotus here: http://www.herodotuswebsite.co.uk/Text/extext.htm
The Battle of Thermopylae is in Book 7.

    Yes.

Xerxes is Paulo from "Lost", too. And Leonidas? The Phantom of the Opera.

I searched back as far as this fora allowed: One Page, and found nothing on the movie. If we were able to look further back duplicate threads would be less of a problem.

Did anyone notice the narrator's voice was completely annoying? Too much dramaticism and effort into trying to sound epic and grandoise.

At one point he got so nasally it became comical.

Leonidas was also the villian/good guy/but really a bad guy in Tomb Raider 2.

Yeah, but the whole thing was so over the top, how could they narrate it any other way ?

I was cackling myself by the time he gave that speech at the end about Freeing the world from superstition and mysticism, and all that "free Greek" jazz. But it was still cool, somehow.
    LoL

the movie was blatantly racist, ignorant typical western propaganda.

    It's so american.

The virtuous white spartans who happen to have a democracy(bs, spartans were not democratic) will win over anyone and anything NONWHITE, EVERYTHING ON THE OTHER SIDE MUST BE EVIL. They didn't even show the thespians or spartan slaves that were forced to fight along with them.

All of a sudden the persians REPRESENT ANYONE NONWHITE,

WOW, I DIDN'T KNOW EASTASIANS AND AFRICANS WERE PERSIANS TOO.

THIS FILM IS LAUGHABLE, RACIST, AND SELF-CONGRATULATORY MASTURBATION.

AMERICANS ARE THE MOST STUPID, ANNOYING PIECES OF SHIT.

On second thought, the script was probably written by a god-fearing christian nazi stormfront.org member. LOL

    Now who's being racist?

It's not an historical document, just a fun movie, get over it. Anyone with half a brain can tell Leonidas is played by a Scottish actor, so realism goes out the window from the off. Not to mention all the posh English accents in ancient Greece....hmm.
I enjoyed it, a guilty pleasure.

One-celled brain, that wasn't the point. The obvious point of the movie is the demonizing of the east considering the present situation in light of iraq. Dumbassshitforbrains, the scottish actor is white.

You are a simple idiot, of course you can't see it.

I'm sure it was a guilty pleasure because you are a cowardly, dishonorable piece of shit american.

Actually the most obvious point of the movie is that Frank Miller is the "in" writer at the moment....

I wouldn't mind seeing a film about the sea-battle of Salamis--has any been done, or in the planning? It was one of the most important battles in history in terms of its effects. The other one I'd like to see is the battle of the Teutonburger Wald in 9 AD.

Chill out iam, or is this your idea of sarcasm?
I'm not American, and this movie does not demonize the East, and it hardly presents the people of ancient Sparta as happy go lucky types does it? All it is is a slice of action for those of us that can take a movie as just a movie.

Out of interest please can you explain exactly how this movie demonizes the East (as you put it)?
Does it try to reflect a typical view of present day Eastern culture? Does anyone that watches this movie take it as 100% historical fact?

Interesting, this coming from american hollywood in a supposedly multicultural nation full of immigrants. The nice(racist)white people behind their fake pc smile. Dirty thoughts anyone?

It amazes me how white people tend to think they are not greedy, selfish, mystic(religion), ugly(white cow).

I know the white pus psyche so intimately, i have more contempt for them than any human group.

My stepfather is a typical whitebread, fundamental right-wing, communist-hating, hypocritcal, bigoted, perverted, christian, ferocious, dishonorable, arrogant(proud), greedy, self-centered, white-loving piece of shit. You are the only race that would produce a such an audacious, blasphemous dirty lowlife who would marry an outsider just to preach to them day in and day out how you and your race are better, lol. I've never seen another race this twisted or devious but then i guess that is where you get your supposed extra intelligence(deviant, lol). Like a mixture of chlorine and the worst rotten pus, your soul.

You really are the most disgusting race except you can't see it. I suggest you do something about your attitude or you do close your borders because foreigners can see your pathetic white scum.

It was dark, humid, boring, boring and had one other major flaw, there was not one single kebab in the whole movie, not even any taramosalata.
