I don't understand why my post has been merged with this one? My post is posing the question of why people watch death and the original post is about maggots and other nasty videos, two very different subjects. So now you click on the thread and the first posts doesn't fit the description.

Did you notice how the older kid behaved in the clip? He starts to walk towards the end of the train as if nothing has happened. It seems really strange, maybe the clip is a fake because he also seems to jump position.

this entire thread could be about why people watch gruesome stuff.

leopold it could be but it isn't, I was interested in how people react to liveleak, but now you have to go to page two to even find the link. It hasn't created any debate at all about why people watch these things or about liveleak, which I think is a shame because its an interesting topic and one I feel deserves its only topic.

Over time you get desensitised to that stuff.

Or even moving the links to the first post would help.

Partly because we're fascinated by the question of our own mortality. When we watch things like this we're actually watching ourselves die at one remove.

Or maybe we just get off on sick stuff, I dunno.

Watching people die for entertainment is pretty sick.

without violence and death 90% of movies wouldent be out.

why are people afraid of watching real death but movie death is ok? it represents the exact same thing, and damnit i cant view the video steams,

    peace.

but isnt the aim of the movie industry to try to be as "realistic" as possible with special effects?.

if you show a 4 year old child a movie scene of somebody bieng beheaded and real footage of somebody bieng beheaded, the child would not know what the difference is. it represents the same thing does it not?

    peace.

    Hence the film ratings system.

People watch films - even 'violent' ones - for escapism. Most of us can tell the difference between real and fictional violence, and most of us react differently in each case.

We'd be horrified to find, upon watching a violent film, that the screams, the blood and the broken bones are genuine. We watch on the assumption that it's all part of the film-maker's fantasy.

An exception is films based on true events which, if we have an interest in the subject, we'll watch with a much more sombre eye than usual, on the assumption that the film is an accurate depiction of what actually occurred.

But most of the time, no matter how 'realistic' the onscreen events, we can laugh at the screams and the bloodletting on the understanding that no humans or animals were harmed in their production.

Talking about movies and reality. I wasn't able to see difference in 'smashing head' scene in Irreversible.

I thought they really killed that man. Disturbing!

    P.S.
I couldn't click on that links. I guess I saw too many nasty things in my life, so I escaped in fiction.
