Both the tsunami and New Orleans were after the disaster type of looting. Iraq is a better example, because when people get the feeling that the natural order of the society is going to break down, that's when the free for all starts.

Now I assumed that the meteor is going to hit a rather big geographical area, at least the size of a country. Let's say they have a few hours notice. It is pretty much a given that everybody is going to be annihilated.

Of course it is possible people's reaction would depend on the length of the notice. Thus a few hours would bring them together but if theyhave a few days, the innitial shock might wear off, and they will see what they could use those last few days instead of singing and praying...

There isn't much that you could do exept perhaps go seek high ground for a better view. I can't imagen why I would steel a plasma TV when I'm going to be treated to such a show or why I would feed some girl some Rohipnol.

... Then again it couldn't harm to use a radio transmitter and sent a message in space promising to upkeep the porn transmissions if somebody or thing gives the astronaut a little push... perhaps it would work... it has a higher succes change then sending a couple of nukes afther it

australia isn't exatly little object of this size are porberly going to be circular do to it's own gravity and have a mass somewhere between 10E20/10E21kg I also know that NASA Russia or anybody else could prepare a (heavy) space rocket in a week or less. I also know that it is inposible to actual blow something up this size with today's technology. I know their is nothing that I personaly could do against it.

I don't think I could hate the rock, could you for a example hate australia despite the weather the people or the animal. I would be extremly anoyed by it, and still hope it misses. I would certainly don't feel the need to go in town and shoot the people I don't like. They 'l die anyway why bother.

And you guessed it wrong. It is not really the size of the asteroid, but the Earth's land/ocean ratio that is important. Since the earth's surface is 2/3 water, statistically speaking there is a better chance the asteroid will hit water. If it was the size of Australia, it wouldn't matter where it land, humankind would say goodbye...

But anyway, here is the story of the NYC blackout. It wasn't even a catastrophy. Riots, lootings, arson. Enjoy!

As your article says, NYC was a powder keg at that time, and just waiting for something to light the fuse, and, as you pointed out, it WASN'T a catastrophy - that's the point.

By the way, during the last blackout, crime actually went down.

 

You guys have to put on a poor man's mindset: In 2 days everyone will be dead, now, what can I do to make these last 2 days interesting? If I were poor, I would loot and eat good stuff too. Maybe hijack a Mercedes for a joyride...Look up old enemies and making revenge. That sorf of stuff.

Any real life example points forward what I said would happen, once the general frames of society are breaking down. Look at how soldiers behave in war...Once there is no accountability and punishment, even average people become different...

 

Astronomers are already finding many types of asteroids and comets and are mapping their trajectories so that they will know years in advance when something is going to hit the Earth. With this mapping a vehicle with a atomic device aboard could be sent out into deep space to encounter the object and blow up close to it causing it to alter its course just a fraction of a degree so that by the time it reaches Earth it will be millions of miles away from Earth and not cause and damages at all.

We need more astronomers to locate more unfound asteroids and comets so as to keep them mapped to know where they are at all times.

Maybe we could make a movie about it and we could title it, let's say, Armageddon? We could ask Bruce Willis to play the hero...
