    GGGrrrr....

Well, it would be nice if a decent sized portion of this otherwise empty mountainous range could be set aside, much like Native American reservations, for the people who think of themselves as "Tibetian" (and not Mandarin Chinese) so that they are able to develop at their own pace and in their own manner and can at least retain a small amount of pride in their unique culture.

Um, you probably have no idea what you just wrote. Basically, you are agreeing with me that Libby did not perjure himself.

The jury was as clueless as you and spidermilk are. They asked the judge three hours before they found Libby guilty what the charges were. Sounds like a reasonable and judicious decision to me.

But then, I am not blithering, blind, and stupid marxist.

I liked this so much I thought I'd post it:

BushCo has lied about reasons for war; sanctioned torture; taken away a centuries old right to habeas corpus; with the regularity of clockwork, breaks federal law by spying on our emails and phone calls; abandoned the people of the Gulf States during Katrina; has deployed our young people for up to the fourth time in a war crime of an occupation; guts and tramples on environmental laws; leaves every child in America behind and has outed a CIA covert operative. What is going to be the flash point for you to turn off your TV and carry a sign, or banner and descend on the White House as oppressed peasants descending on the castle of the lord of the realm with pitchforks and torches?

I can see it now, Doomsday Dick and his Royal Low-Ness, George Bush lynched Saddam style....

    ????

I don’t know what History book you read but President Bill Clinton was acquitted by the Senate of the impeachment charge by the House of Representatives. Further, the charges were perjury and obstruction of justice fell short of the two-thirds majority required for conviction. Lastly, the Senate acquitted on the obstruction charge.

    There was no felony committed!

That is not true, I am not in agreement. You must have misinterpreted my post. Please show me where you thought I agreed with you and I will clarify.

This is way worse than Watergate, and it's just the tip of the iceberg.

The Senate voted not to punish Clinton (remove him from office) for the impeachable offense(s) determined by the House of Representatives.

The House, in fact, did impeach Clinton for what was deemed by it to be an impeachable offense. And you are correct in stating that the Senate voted not to punish Clinton despite his having been impeached by the House.

Impeachment was the punishment available to the House. Removal from office was a punishment available to the Senate.

Presidents don't get impeached for no crime.
Lying to a Grand Jury is a crime.

Granted, Clinton lied in a civil case and Libby lied in a criminal case. That is a relevant distinction.

They both lied. They both were/will be punished for lying. Perjury is a felony, no matter if in a civil or a criminal context.

"The Senate rejected the perjury", but Clinton didn't -- by the very fact that he willingly accepted disbarment as punishment for the offense.

    Mr. G,

    Good points.
And yes, even a blind man riding by on a bus could see that Clinton lied when he said he didn't have sex with Monica.

That aside, surely you agree that Libby is guilty - as it now stands?

Very True. There is nothing remotely conservative about Bush's Big Brother giant government, biggest growth of govt. bureaucracy in US history. Expanding police powers, military adventurism, budget busting wars. The GOP has been hijacked by the religious right. Now it is America's version of The Party of God. If some of these so called conservative SF'er's ever knew what conservatism was they would never, ever support the current neoconmen in power now, ever. Just do some Googling righties. Goldwater, Buchanan, Novack, Buckley, not one of them would support the current mafia in D.C.

I do not know as fact that Libby lied. I do know as fact that a jury of his peers believed that he lied.

They may be wrong in their belief. Or they may not. I do not know.

But the fact of the matter is that our system of justice ultimately rests on our own abilities as individual citizens to do the right thing at the right time when called on to pass judgement in ways that should be in the best interest of us all.

I have to trust that such a system works more times than not, or I am left with the horrific realization that most of my fellow citizens are Sciforums members.

    Eeeekkk!
