Oh, my, god. That's the funniest thing ever.

But you have me thinking... this is something that I wouldn't mind too much. I'd be splitting my time between performing my duties as the starting QB for the Cowboys, and starring in feature-films as the new Brad Pitt of Hollywood! (We need to get on this plan right-quick)

This hits on my response to the thread: Please tell me how the outcome is desirable. And please convince me that the outcome would be what you think it is. It seems a given that a world of smarter people would be better... but why? And people seem to think that absolute comparison weighs heavier than relative comparison, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Breeding more only speeds up your extinction. Look around you, most of the current people here don't even care about whats going on now. What do you think 10 billion will be like, or 20 billion? How will we manage them? And what if millions, or billions become aggressive and blow up the earth?

10 billion will be pretty much the same as we have now.

Just wanted to mention that I never suggested that achritecture or clothing ever has something to do with the form of government. Maybe I should have phrased the sentence like this: thats a grave outlook on how Governtment systems could work in the futere.

The consequenses of such politics would be terrible. Birthrights could be abused for political reasons. People not worthy of reproduction could be excluded from society leading to new class order. That would be a nice negativ utopia. It's only a possiblity.

And doing all this with implants? The countries that would need the most birth controll dont have the infrastructure to do it... The answer would be some kind of biological or chemical agent...

And wouldn't all this promote violance and burocracy he wants to avoid?

"if he is so smart, how come he works as a bouncer? That means he is either not so smart so he can not find a better job, or he likes to beat people up, which concradicts his later statements about the world too violent and him wanting to solve that."

Not many men would feel comfortable going to work with someone that has a IQ of 210, I would think he keeps himself going by learning on his own and not paying attention to most people. People often gang up on and single out men who are that intelligent. What would you do if you were him anyway go to school and try not to fall asleep.

A bouncer is there to stop violence, not start it! And it can be a pretty interesting job I would think, always different people, no repetitive tasks probally.

I assume a smart person would be able to find the job where he/she feels comfortable, fullfilled, earns enough money, etc.

Now it is possible that bouncing others is his love, but I say he could have a sport based on that and not a job. And please don't tell me that they are paid so well... Not to mention it can be dangerous, there is always a stronger guy.

    Ever heard of selfeducation?

No it is not. After all, just how many different drunkards exists.

But I would like to hear his version, why he is a bouncer...

Also the meaning of life would be enlightening...

Edit: I am watching the program now, will comment on it later. So he always had physical jobs (construction, firefighter, bouncer) and he is complaining about his knees being overused. He says he would have other job if he could get it. Geee....

To me an extra smart person (well considering the circumstances) can shape his own destiny and not just go with the flow and take whatever comes to him in life....

He is intelligent, but he doesn't seem to be that smart....

In the interviews he rather clearly states that he does not enjoy his line of work: that he is simply grateful, at his age, to have a job that doesn't require much physical labour (ie, he can 'stand and watch things' most of the time). I never got the impression that he deliberately chose his life of labour. In fact, he explicitly said that he 'fell into it'. He would prefer being a philosopher king. Thank God he is not one.

OK, he obviously doesn't know too much about politics. He is complaining about " Militarism on the parts of foreign governments..." He means non-American militarism.

The US military budget is bigger than the next 10 countries COMBINED. So it is sad to blame militarism on other countries....

Edit: This is from the same series, a much smarter guy (Rick Rosner) although his IQ was only 150 in high school. He looks more statisfied and happy in life, I think he also won money on the Who wants to be a Millionare...

The smartest guy I ever knew, and he was genuinely genius to talk to, had a good sense of humour on top of a highly scientific and mathematical mind, but his whole genius was dedicated to the physics behind skateboarding.
He'd understand what would happen when pushing your foot here and lifting your other foot there and so on, and he could independently invent tricks from this basis, and he'd go around training all of the talented young skaters making them better.
He got an OP of 1 (don't know what the american equivalent is, but the best score you could possibly get after highschool which hardly any body ever gets), and could have been anything, but he went to a lowdown public college to take photography so he could photograph skateboarders for magazines.

It's possible or even likely for intellectually superior types to just focus on something and have tunnel vision, to find beauty in a simple commonly overlooked thing.

However, this guy which inspired this thread sounds like me before I grew up, he's just ignorant and uneducated, harbouring the zany and utimately idiotic ideals which burden an intellectual's mind under such conditions.
If he was raised and educated by the prince of wales to have a wordly understanding of knowledge and history he'd probably be quite wise indeed and worth listening too.
As it stands he's an interesting anomoly, but it shouldn't be assumed his ideas on how the world should be run and so on etc etc are more correct than your own.
Maybe in 20 or 30 years time he might have an interesting perspective to share, right now he sounds like a million ignorant teenagers making that transition to adult hood where their brains become usefull tools but they haven't quite caught up.
You can't escape the obvious reality that he is still in the process of developing his brain, training it with zany theories, essentally practising for the real world.
He'll come to regret obtaining this opportunity to address the public, in 5 years time the dumbest person he's met will be himself 5 years ago.

Generally the smarter you are the longer it takes for you to grow up, it's just more work getting your brain operating at it's full potential.
This guy is perfect proof of that.
He might be 50 before he has valuable insight.

I haven't yet watched the video as to date I have found the feedback and comments in the thread informative enough so far.

One thing that bothers me is this:
I agree with the statement below (apart from the mispelling) - this can be true as academia is essentially a cerebral phenomenon - particularly the sciences which attempt objectivity...but also experientially.
I know this is true as I've 'been' there; but my experience has also taught me that there is much that is heart-felt, warm and personal in academia. Sure its top-down 'heavy' but also bottom-up 'strong' - personally I think humanity and the world has benefited from academia.

Has this dude been within academia to make this assessment? And if so did he attend an institution that was not reflective of the general trend?

This does often seem true, yes. There is a biological parallel: as a general rule, progressively more advanced species have respectively longer 'childhoods' (to use an anthropocentric term). This is even true amongst relative stages in the evolution of civilisations. Even the concept of adolescence changes through time. Two centuries ago, adolescence (in the sociological sense) in the West was primarily confined to the upper classes. The many years society now permits for children to gradually adjust to adulthood is a relatively new phenomenon. I recommend 'The Long Childhood', hosted by the late Prof Jacob Bronowski - part of his Ascent of Man series.

Yes - brain requires lots of energy...very costly in terms of development and evolution.

Wow, this guy is confident that he's the most intelligent person on the planet because ...

But how he does know that his understanding of reality is deeper than any other person's? There was no reference to theory or physical experiment, so why is his perception of nature truer than mine or anybody else's?

Also, he claims that reproduction is a privilege, not a right. Rights, privileges, laws, etc are artificial concepts. If our society regards reproduction as a human right, then by common consensus that's just what it is.

Wow, you guys not going to believe this. This 2nd guy has been a bouncer for 21 years!! He was also a stripper. He went to highschool for 10 or so extra years, don't ask...

WTF is with these high IQ guys and being a bouncer???

Edit: After watching both programs, these guys strike me as both failures and having a grudge against life, like: :"If I am so smart how come I am not successfull?"

If humans become extinct, I couldn't care less what happens to the earth and its other lifeforms.

I care about my family, my nation, and then humanity in general. Everything else is a means to these ends. If some bizarre Sci-fi scenario existed in which I could save humanity, but destroy the earth in the process (say, we'd be transported to another planet) or save the earth and doom humanity; I wouldn't even hesistate.

This guy's a loser...if he's so incredibly smart why hasn't he changed the world yet? No one truly knows what "intelligence" is....IQ is meaningless....

Kendall-A persons environment has more to do with how successful they are then there intelligence most of the time if not all in the civilized world. Being the smart guy can cause everyone around you to try and hold you down(kurt Cobain-"I found my friends, there in my head"), I guess he was talking about that voice in our head that tells us all the good things our friends say about us,lol, what do they really say?

Being a bouncer is actually a good job. You get to meet a lot of important people, you get to observe human behavior, you get access to all the most ignorant but often best looking women, and in this environment you'll meet the widest range of people, along with the widest range of human behavior to analyze and interpret.

It's actually not a bad way to start out, it's just not something to spend your life doing. It's good to be a bouncer when you are in your 20s, but once you get to be about 30, it's time to retire, hopefully with some friends you made during your bouncer days, and move onto making movies, or into the music industry, or business world, or whatever the hell you want to do from there.
