In the way it replaced what originated in Europe. As you might know christianity came from the middle east. Ironically the christians see themselves as defenders against ME influence. You can only laugh about that.


I find the irony of their position rather amusing.

Hence my earlier statement: culture is change. Nothing remains the same. To strive for a status quo is unnatural. To think christianity in Europe signifies European traditions is just too much. It originates from the ME. It got adapted by the roman empire. It got changed along the way through the ages. Now we have a muslim influence on our culture. c'est la vie.

Yes that is true. I always find it strange that they make fun of Arabs, their clothes, mannerisms, habit, language and then worship Jesus, who originated from a similar culture.

And that they follow the principles of Romans rather than Jesus (imperialism, warfare rather than forgiveness, charity) when it was the Romans who they believe to have crucified Jesus.

The persians, pre-muslim arab culture, byzantium, where are the buddhists and hindus of afghanistan the zoastrians of persia non-muslim north africa. Islam is not just governance it is a culture in itself with its own views on how to dress, eat behave etc etc. The former beliefs and much of the traditions from pre islamic middle east, africa, near east are all but lost. The wests rule over the middle east and africa came and went while the muslims came and supplanted earlier belief systems and traditions for all time.

They would be an addition only if they didn't supplant what came before which they did. Abrahamic religions have a funny way of doing that.

 

Islam destroyed the middle east, they used to be civilised.
The west went into a dark ages, but came out, that's the difference. We experienced a reformation and renaissance.
The middle east has Bush of all people trying to impose one on them in 2007, how embarrassing.

Yes feces is considered dirty in the west, quite disgusting in fact. Dirtier than dirt itself.
We are grossed out if we get some on the bottom of our feet, let alone in our hair or between our teeth.
We really don't like the smell, it is unpleasant to our olfactory receptors.

 

Well in India we use animal feces for manure and the feces of some animals like cows is made into cow patties, dried out and used as fuel.

When Alexander started his campaign to bring the Persian empire on its knees he called them barbarians. Needless to say Islam didn't exist yet.

Indeed, a clash of cultures.

However, did the middle east change because of islam? Or did the islam originate in the middle east because of the middle east?

 

As with christianity in europe there was no doubt a degree of blending of traditions but the culture that existed before the coming of islam/christianity was changed or supplanted for all time, in effect destroyed.

I was looking for that to show Fraggle who still believed in the replacement theory.

 

It's interesting though. The standard thought is that with the recent wave of immgrants from muslim countries into Europe the immigrants will eventually intergrate. However, the saxon example shows that the reverse could also be true. That the invading culture replaces the existing one.

Whether that will happen or not probably depends on factors nobody bothered to study before. What makes a culture attractive? Or persuasive?
