Get in touch with reality. I spend two years in art school and never copied anything.

If people were painting mona lisas you wouldn't have had rembrandt, picasso monet, karel Appel.

Does this apply to all cultures? Would you support a team of culture conservers going around the world changing cultures for their own good? Refurbishing hindu temples with statues of jesus, making laplanders wear fubu jeans, forcing cook islanders to replace their own coming of age ceremonies with bahmitzfahs?
Make the japanese wear muddy boots inside, sit on stools and tear down those foolishly impractical paper walls?
    Etc?

It's generally considered a good idea by liberals to conserve cultures which are being lost, or altered, like aborigine or innuits.
I know because I too am interested in different cultures and concerned about them being lost, because they're all so interesting and multifacetted and unique in their own right, different human perspectives that can arise, and understanding all these cultures and their different perspectives is invaluable in becoming a wiser human being.
And I notice there's always some old hippy liberal guys involved in teaching young ethnic kids about their peoples old ways and encouraging them to not lose aspects of their own culture in favour of wesern influences.
But then all of a sudden the rules change with western civilisation.
Conserving anything about western culture is considered a racist attack on multiculturalism.

There's so much I don't even know about westen culture myself, I actually think I understand all other cultures better because it is so encouraged to learn about them. Which is great because I like learning about them, but I shouldn't be unable to learn about my own culture because of it.
It should have been the primary first culture I learned about. It should be the one I understand most comprehensively.

    But really, I'm fucking clueless.
For example I'm vaguely starting to learn (thanks to antiques roadshow) how different regions in britain had different mascott animals which were holy to them and hunting them was a sacred ritual. Their animal would appear all over their daggers and swords and in pottery they made and all sorts of things and they could be identified as belonging to this group who "hunted the hart" or whatever.
Shit like this is interesting to me, really significant to me as a human being to know about these cultural nuances which shaped the animal I am.
I should have been learning shit like this when I was 5 years old, what the fuck?
Even african american kids, they're ecnouraged so much to learn about africa and understand their culture, and it's seen as such a wholesome beautifull thing by liberals.
What is so diabolical about white people doing the same?
A liberal could shed a real life tear to hear an african american man express disappointment in not knowing his cultural heritage and not being able to experience that culture and feel like a complete human.
But a white guy expressing the same concerns is, not only not sympathised with, actively hated for having such desires.
    It's absolutely insane.

I doubt anyone is against the preservation of Western culture. I think the history of Westerners destroying other cultures/people is what works against them. Everyone knows that the consequences of allowing white supremacy to flourish are devastating for non-white peoples.

white supremacy never existed in Europe. It's a fucking myth. There were rulers. They ruled. Everybody just did what the rulers said. White didn't exist. You had superior (fill in your favourite local ethnic group). But that was only during a short period in European history.

Preserving cultures is stupid. Often it hurts the people it aims to help. It's a good insight about some liberals. What should be most important is the people, if they can make a living, feed their families. Sometimes this does mean preserving a way of life by regulating logging or oil drilling in a forest for instance.

She is not personally responsible for India. If it's bad in India, it's bad in the US. Besides, she is living in the west, that makes it relevent.

Sam lives in India! She/he only came to America for her/his college education ...because there ain't no good colleges in India!

Never said she/he was "responsible" for India ....only that she/he berates the USA and/or the western nations for EXACTLY the same things that are occuring in India ....which she/he selectively ignores. No, even worse ...she/he glorifies India even while all the shit is going on all over the nation. I believe the term here is .......hippo-fuckin'-critter!

If her criticism of the US is true, then it should be considered on it's own merits. Attacking those criticisms based on the country of origin of the speaker is ad hominum, and it's weak. But, that is what the right does, rather than discussing the topic, they attack the questioner.

I hardly think she is pro-Indian. Being one, I wasn't invited to see.

Of course there are good colleges in India.
India has one of the smartest colleges in the world - IIT. Kids who are rejected here get full rides to Ivy Leagues and junk. Plus, I don't see what's wrong with attending college somewhere else and then returning - why does she have to stay?

The greatest threat to every country's culture comes from multi-national companies that are busy making every high street in the world look identical. Whilst everyone's distracted by all the fuss over immigrants Macdonalds and their ilk are slowly turning the planet into one giant treeless burger bar.

It's them who've got to be stopped, and who can't be.
Nothing, it's in your imagination. Liberals are so often accused of hating their countries and their own cultures. It may be true of the more retarded ones but personally I love my country with all its bizarre traditions, but despise the way that it's being slowly homogenised, with it's high streets and it's TV channels becoming indistinguishable from those of any other nation. What was once so diverse is becoming as colourless and tasteless as tap water.

Behaviour is one thing, thoughts are another. What I said applies equally to ducks.

If you do not revere the Mona Lisa, are not we killing it just as much as endlessly copying it?

Certainly we can allow innovation, but wholescale replacement is another thing entirely. Moreover, this does not account for superior v. inferior.

Does the history of muslims destroying other cultures/people work against them in the same way? Lest we forget that "the west" was besieged by "the muslims" for something like 800 years.
