And that they will work with Democrats, but they really want to finish what they started. In Irak and elswhere.

I can't find any news story to corroborate this.

    Thanks.

If it is that old, why would they be flashing it as a special report?

Damn, how the hell did I miss this?

I guess its only non-Americans who read the BBC news on a regular basis.

It was a hot topic during the Lebanon crisis and has cooled down considerably. He does keep shifting the goalposts though and having seen him change his mind about the date before, I would not put it past him to do it again. His party wants him out asap though.

I tend to read, listen to or watch the BBC fairly regularly.
Lately I haven't been keeping up with the news as much as usual, but I am surprised this wasn't plastered all over everywhere (I guess I shouldn't be surprised, though).

It was actually pretty much discussed at the point in the Lebanon war when US planes were refueling in the UK.

I'm sure he's said he'd step down within a year about 3 times now, over the past few years.

No, he has never said "within a year" until the 2006 Labour Confernce.

Except that nobody has yet stood up to say Blair must go now, push him out, vote for me, I want to take his place and promise to make a better job of it.

Creeps and wimps, all of them.

Anyone who tries that never gets support. Thats why they don't do it.

That is what Blair did, and he got support, to get where he is.

    Who tried since then?

Sauna- Blair was elected back in the 90's after John Smith, the previous leader, died of a heart attack.
Sure, he politicked with Gordon Brown to get there, but he didnt directly challenge the incumbent.

Like he just sort of fell into place by default?

He pushed out the Labour Party, never mind John Smith. He pushed out Clause IV

Blair did not stand up and say "John Smith should drop dead so I can take over".
He went through the usual political process of kissing ass, promising the earth and smiling nicely at lots of people. Somehow enough idiots were persuaded that he was a genuine guy that they voted for him.
Anyway we all know that he is tha bastard love child of Mrs Thatcher and an anonymous sperm donor. IMagine, 27 years of Thatcherism in one country, and they've gotten as far as half privatising the post office.

    No he didnt.

I was referring to the Heseltine/Thatcher bust up. Heseltine kissed his chances of being Prime Minister goodbye becasue he was seen as the one who knifed her in the back.

It's also one of the reasons Gordon Brown hasn't had the balls to challenge Blair outright, even though he's dying to be the next Prime Minister.

I didn't see or hear anything about the troops in any of the stories? Did I miss something or did you just make that assumption?

There has been some stuff bandied about about the troops being pulled out by that time, yes.
Whetehr they are or not depends upon the situation on the ground.
